The Best Settlement?

My first playthru I used Greygarden, put my HQ on the overpass. My second time, I'm using Boston Airport cause it's pretty worthless for a settlement and I'm using it for power armor storage plus it's kinda centrally located. And it fits in well with me siding with the Institute this time as I have about 50 missile turrets aimed at the BOS, they are in for a surprise lol.

My next playthru will definately be Jamaica Plains since I tried out the mod that expands it to let you build in the whole town, it will take quite awhile to fill that up.

Hey Kevin, the new steam beta makes it so you can no longer build on the overpass in Greygarden! I've got a house up there now but can't add to it >_<

Good idea about the Airport as a centrally located storage location... hmm... might give that a try this time ;)

I used the mod to expand Jamaica Plains, but the cell reset bug brought some of the building back.

I'm up to lvl85 and have put quite a bit of time in and I thought that I'd seen everything. Las night, I was wondering about and I saw a Super Mutant, he didn't appear to be aggressive, so I walked up to him. All of a sudden BEHEMOTH popped up in red and he attacked me, he took some killing too.

I'm fairly sure that there's a mod to allow you to build higher. I still like Sanctuary, except for the 50 or so Minutemen hanging around near my workbench. They've been there ever since I finished the main quest, they don't do anything and they don't show up on the number of settlers. Hopefully, in the event of an attack they would be of some help.

I also quite liked Warwick Homestead and Jamaica Plains, however I scrapped some of the buildings (including the processing tanks, the lagoons and the water at Warwick) and built some quite nice 3 storey buildings. The next time that I returned to both, the scrapped buildings had reappeared (cell reset bug presumably) in the middle of my new buildings.

This happened with Scrap Everything. One of their updates messed things up and they patched it right away.

Try moving any scrap mods to the very bottom of your list, that should restore your scrapped building to being scrapped.

Much obliged, I'll give that a try tonight.

Edit: Well, I tried your suggestion and it worked. I went back to Warwick Homestead and the scrapped building had disappeared again. Many Thanks.

My base is usually Starlight Drive, Sanctuary or The Castle, but in one Playthrough on Xbox One i actually build a multi story Hangmans Alley with 25 Settlers which became my HQ later on because it had that post apocalyptic charme, it was a crowded and dirty shantytown with small and shady wooden alleys 20 ft above ground, always endangered and attacked by raiders, but damn it was sexy and in a nice central location. Home Plate. It's about the only place I can guarantee nobody can ever mess around with the metal boxes sitting around stuffed to the hinges with legendary items. Home is where the full Bobblehead displays and magazine racks are, as far as I'm concerned.

Beyond that, I dabbled with a few spots and have "homes" that are there with no loot, at Murkwater, Spectacle Island, and... oh, where was the third one... Coastal Cottage? I think. 440+ hours in on a single play and things start to slip :) Had a 'formula' for the first two (which were built last), central staircases that kind of spiral, and one panel in each direction so each tier is 6-9 panels. First floor is storage and workbenches, second and third (sometimes fourth) are beds (with storage cabinets etc. used as stairwell rails), next floor is merchant space and uses 'open' walls, next is my room, top floor generators/spotlights/turrets. Works pretty well and is really light on the build limits for what you get. I should upload some of the locally stored screenshots some day...
