InuyashaFE
The compass is out of the way, though, isn't it? It shouldn't really hurt the gameplay too much. I would prefer a circular one myself, so that you could tell where everything is easier, though.
Tcafitra
I like to see more on the buffs and debuffs what they look like and how they are displayed on the UI.This. Oblivion's display of buffs/debuffs (especially debuffs) was terrible. Let's hope this is improved. Overall though the UI looks good so far, but we'll have to wait and see what the finished product is.
Povuholo
It gives too little information. In Oblivion you can get a long list of items and show the price, weight, attack rating, etc. all at the same time. Install a nice UI mod and you can see even more items at the same time. Right now it looks like you can't see any item stats until you actually select the individual item, which could make comparing items very annoying. Myriss
I know this is just personal taste and opinion, but the text font feels like something you might see in Fallout, or in a game set in modern times. The UI is nice and sleek, though for me personally, it feels a bit off with the world. I don't like how large the status bars are either, even if they do hide themselves automatically. I sorta liked how everything in Oblivion was shoved to the bottom and corners. For example, when you discover something, the name shows up in a corner, rather than in your face as shown in the Skyrim commentary. Or how creature names are slapped in the centre of the screen in Skyrim, but was left to another corner in Oblivion. I can see the compass being very annoying as well, if it isn't adjustable. I don't like UI elements taking up the top part of my screen in games like this. I enjoy staring up into the sky and mountains, and the compass would get rather irritating. None of this deters me from getting the game anyway. The UI could change between now and release, or it may be adjustable. Even if none of those occur, someone will definitely make a mod, which changes the UI in some way or form which I'll like better.
headbomb
It's a great console interface. Which means its anywhere from a downright shitty to ok-ish PC interface. For reference, let's take a look at this video, at 3:39 http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6318263/ If we're taking the HUD apart * Compass at the top = Big WTF. Put that s*** at the bottom, I don't want my scenery to be ruined by a compass.* Enemy name/health at the top, below the compass = Again with the cluttering. It's nice to know that you're fighting a "BANDIT MAURAUDER", but really that stuff should be pretty damned obvious. Morrowind had it right with the small enemy health bar. Which brings me to the ...* Health/Magicka/Stamina bars = Spanning the entire bottom of the screen? That's a whole lot of horizontal eye movement to get the info you want. Shove 'em all at the bottom left, and stack the three bars on top of each other. Having the bars shrink from both sides also make it harder to gauge what's your remaining H/M/S levels. That the bars pop in and out is another big crime. * Lack of spell(s)/weapon(s) icon isn't a big thing for me since you pretty much have visual feedback from simply looking at the stuff that's in your hands.* Big ass screen-cluttering system messages such as "HEAVY ARMOR INCREASE TO 16" + a progress bar to the next level. A small message in one of the corners of the screens would have been fine and much less intrusive. I'll analyze the inventory when I can find screenshots/videos of them [i've seen them before, I just can't find them at the moment] Aright, found a pic of the skills menuhttp://www.gameinformer.com/cfs-filesystemfile.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-ImageFileViewer/CommunityServer-Components-SiteFiles-imagefeed-featured-bethesda-elderscrolls-elderscrollsv/SkillsMenu.jpg_2D00_610x0.jpg What do we have here? Well first you don't get a quick overview of your character's skills, you can see 7 out of 18 skills, and you need to CYCLE between them to get to the one you want. This should have been presented in LIST form, then take to the skill "constellation" after you selected the skill you care about with a simple click. [more to come] [Edit, thanks to Corakus for finding that video]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izIKymAODt4 * Alright, from the start we see the stupid designed-for-D-pad menu selection. Hopefully this is console-specific, but we'd be stupid to expect it to be. How about TAB to bring up the character menu aka the "character sheet", with inventory/skills/magic/map available from a click of the mouse. You shouldn't be accessing the magic/skills very often. Map should be M, and items should be I. But that D-PAD cross is simply an unnecessary step.* Again with a damned inventory menu. I mean, if anything, have the various weapons/armour/alchemy/etc "tabs" run from left to right, rather than up/down, and have everything be sortable by Weight/Damage/Armor/Value/etc...** Unsure if I'm seeing everything in the menu, but we have favourites, all, weapons, apparel (aka clothes and armour), potions, food, ingredients books, miscellaneous. It will be nice to have that damned alchemy finally cleaned up and separated into potions, food and ingredients. Shame there's not more tabs though (I would add one for ammo, one for jewelry, and one for anything magic related like soulstones and magic scrolls . And I hope there's a damned keyring this time.*Skills I dissected above, so no need to go over it again.*Map, call me old school but I preferred the "real map" feel that the previous TES had. A 3D map kinda breaks immersion for me. On the plus side, it doesn't look broken, so this is more a matter of taste than it is a matter of usability. Jacars
I agree with you, headbomb. I don't like the new UI in particular. The health/fatigue/magicka bars are EVEN BIGGER than in Oblivion, and the skill increased text? Bleh. And I hate the compass being at the top. I don't like the font, either. It just feels out of place. I blame consoles, and their small resolution; if the smaller text would be in Oblivion/Morrowind style font, it would be unreadable. I pray for the time when consoles die. But none of this deters me from loving the game.
Corakus
@ headbomb Here you go. Remember that they were planning on making it like the skills list where it all itunes-ish but I guess they changed their minds and decided to make it a list.
