The NES thread

This is a thread dedicated to the gaming system that took over the torch and basically saved the whole gaming industry after the video game crash of 1983, I believe it was. Details aside though, it became a tremendous success for Nintendo and gained gaming fans all over the world. It´s a system that still has a lot of popularity long after it was taken off the shelves and it is equally iconic and infamous at the same time.

But this thread isn´t mainly about that. It´s about the games and the accessories and the memories. I collect games for my own console I got as a kid. It still works and since I made the decision to take it apart to clean it and cut the 10NES lockout chip (preventing games not approved by Nintendo to be played), it works even better now than when it was new since the lockout chip can also screw with legal games.

I realize this is a topic perhaps not shared by too many here, so I invite you to write about any other old gaming system you may have played or simply know something about that you want to share. The only requirement I ask you to follow is that it´s about a cartridge-based system.

I still have my NES but it looks terrible on an HDTV, I really need to get a CRT but we're pushed for space. The one I had most fun with was the N64, 2D was getting old towards the end of the SNES's life and the Super FX chips had given us a taste of 3D, the N64 provided that.

Well, modding an original NES from the ´80s is hardly illegal these days. The system has been off the shelves for at least 20 years :)

I personally never liked the N64. It´s something about the early days of 3D models and controls.

 

I wanted a SNES as a kid but couldn´t get one and now I have no interest in it, I just want what I had back then :)

Since you invited us to mention other cartridge systems, (and although I love my SNES) for some reason this thread brought my old GBA to mind. I still have that bad boy somewhere, though I've upgraded throughout the years. I admit to staging a personal protest when they brought out the DSi and it wouldn't support my GBA cartridges. Skullduggery! Still, I eventually folded with the reasoning that I still actually have my DS and GBA, so why miss out? Now I rarely use them at all. Good investment there :ermm:

Never had a GBA but I did have/do have the original Gameboy and I have recently picked up the clear version as well as a Light.

 

 

Played the crap out of the original back in the day and although I only had/have about six games that were/is my own, I have beaten all of them several times :)
