FlyingFreak
Hi everyone, I'm trying my hand at putting some mods into Oblivion but I can't seem to get them working and I think I might be doing something wrong with extracting the files. I downloaded 7-zip file manager (is that the right program to use?) and I can access the files through there and I can create a new mod using the Oblivion Mod Manager but they don't seem to work in the game. Can someone please help me out and give me suggestions on the best way to do this or provide a walk through? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. bben46
First guess - you are the latest victim of Microsoft's UAC. UAC is an overzealous security program that is in Win7 and Vista - But not in Winxp. It will block mods without bothering to tell you. You will have done everything right, the mod shows up in the data list, you check it - and it doesn't show up. Best solution - reinstall outside of the protected program files folders (the default install location)Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice. eric31415
Even if User Account Controls aren't causing your current difficulties, it WILL give you headaches down the road. Reinstall to an unprotected location now, before it becomes too big a job. I ran the game from the default location for a few months before having any real problems, but at that point i had 80 - 100 mods installed. Took me 3 days to redo. Good job installing everything via OBMM (vs. manual install), in my opinion it is the best way to install mods. But it can be tricky (at first) to convert non-OMOD files to OMOD format. Give an example of a mod that didn't work for you, and post some screenshots of your Oblivion and Data folders.
