bigv32
Okay to make things simple, I use to play new vegas a lot, but I quit for a while (3-4 Months). Now I am back and am starting to redownload a lot of mods I know I still want. However I would appreciate some advice on newer mods I have not heard of before. Obviously, I can look up weapon, armor mods, etc. on my own, but it is some of the other kinds I am looking for help on. For instance, I got a good gaming computer so I am looking at downloading some good textures. I am not sure what are currently the best out there. Also, I used enhanced shaders before but am not sure if that is still the "best" mod out there. New Vegas Bounties I have read good things about. Basically I am looking for recommendations for any mods that would be recommended for anyone (for example I use to use performance enhancer but am not sure if any more recent mods have been released that do the same thing), and then I am looking for mods that make new vegas look better. Right now I am looking at monster mod and war zones in order to make the game more combat friendly. Finally, and mods that increase game performance would be appreciated. EDIT: I a while ago that the recent patch (at that time) had broke the GEEK. Has this been fixed in the GEEK download or through a patch? I will start downloading when I get home so thanks for any advice.
kevkiev
Given the time frame you're talking, you may already have heard of A World of Pain but you might not know about the AWOP Monster Patch which meshes with Monster Mod to create "Rumble Zones". AWOP is mind-blowing enough, but the monster patch makes it even better. Really, really intense combat. Plus it adds "serial killers" to the wasteland to make cross-country trips across the Mojave quite a bit more interesting. You'll probably want some kind of night vision mod for the rumble zones, a lot of 'em are very dark. As well, WMX (weapon mods expanded) has recently been patched into AWOP - I'm lovin' that combo as well. Sounds like you've already clued-in to New Vegas Bounties. NVBI was awesome, but NVBII is absolutely killer. As far as textures go, I'm not that up to speed on new stuff but I've always relied on the import of NMC's texture pack from FO3 and have always been satisfied. Doesn't have NMC in the name for search purposes, but you can find it here (requires that you have NMC's textures installed on FO3). I've been meaning to check out the Poco Bueno textures, but am so happy with NMC's I've just never got 'round to it. (Or is it Ojo Bueno? Anyways, might be worth a look.) Another good, simple and effective, environment one that's fairly recent is "Siimple Street Lights" which lights up previously unused lampposts across the Mojave and, iirc, adds a handful more too. Also makes barrel and camp fires more luminescent. (Really great with a darker nights mod - I use "Nights are Darker" and like it quite a bit.) I'd also recommend the New Bison Steve and Lucky Casino mod if you're looking for more quests - not as extensive as AWOP or NVBII (that's no dig, those latter 2 are pretty insane), but is totally high-quality and fits into the game just seemlessly right from the beginning. (AWOP monster patch and NVBII might be better when your char is a bit stronger, though I guess you can always turn the difficulty level down for a lower level PC). You also might want to check out the relatively new Willow companion mod - amazingly interactive companion with related quests. I was very happy with my vanilla FONV companions so was reluctant to try it despite all the accolades (file of the month, tons of endorsements) and am very glad I did. Just amazing quality and a gas to play - Willow is totally part of my crew now. Hope that helps a bit. (And welcome back to NV!) Oh, and I believe the Geck has indeed been fixed after the latest patch threw a wrench into it. Though I don't have a link handy.
mellowtraumatic
You definitely want the Poco Bueno Texture pack. It breathes a lot of new life in the old, everyday objects of the Mojave.
bigv32
Thanks for the advise. I am looking at downloading those texture packs and enhanced shaders. I am assuming because I have not found anything saying other wise that the texture packs and poco bueno do not conflict. Can anyone confirm or deny this? teespoon
Here are some mods I personally find essential. Also, I'm using Dynavision, Imaginator, Hedzshots Weapon Pack, and Nuka Cola Cans. There's got to be something you'll like in this list, I think :3 WOP adds a lot of the Fallout3 lore-type side notes that I missed, in addition to awesome combat and dungeons. NVB I was a lot of fun, too. I didn't care much for II, though.

I have used fellout in both fallout 3 and NV, but in NV when I added Nevada Skies and URWLIR (or something like that) I do not believe I ever got them all to work together properly. This time around I will be sure to make them all work right lol.

PowderdToastMan
If your looking for textures, the poco bueno is pretty good. Also, Nevada skies has an alternate texture pack for some of the landscapes that looks pretty good. To get Nevada Skies URWL to run properly, drop the meshes, textures, and sound from both the main nevada skies file and the v14 urwl cloudpack but do the main file first, then use only the urwl esp, and make sure it is the very very very last thing in your load order. Then load the game and go to the weather settings on the hydrograph and disable all of the settings under the weather category only. fast travel to a location and it will have taken effect. Also, Darker nights for URWL works perfectly with URWL, just make sure it is the only esp loaded after URWL. http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35315

I am happy I am starting with a clean install of NV because my data folder during my last time playing was a train wreck. I always laughed because I was surprised it would work at all.
