Katarsi
I was worried that I'd be asking too much if I post my specific request here, but comparing to other requests I think I'm fairly easy-to-please :D I have a dialogue issue in my Mage origin. Yes, only the Mage origin. When conversing with some NPCs, my dialogue choices don't show, and neither the titles, and the conversation goes on its own. After hours and days of trying various options to fix this problem, as well as figuring out its cause, I realized that no mod is at fault and that my game simply has this particular bug. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't do the trick either.I have DAO with all DLCs (1.04 patch) for over 2 years now, and this is the first time that I'm playing as a mage, so this is the reason why I never noticed this bug before.I posted this as a problem in the troubleshooting section, but no one offered to help so far. I figured that a specific mod might be what I actually need. If someone knows how to tweak dialogues, I would IMMENSELY appreciate the fix to my issue. All I need is to see my PC's dialogue choices and conversation titles during every dialogue in the game, so I could normally make a choice while conversing with NPCs.I have no idea if anyone else has the same or at least similar issue, but since it's Dragon Age, I guess anything is possible :P This kind of mod could only help in any event. Is this doable?
mcgoy
I've played DAO several times with both human and elf mages and never seen the problems that you have. There are already several dialogue tweak mods available. I suspect that you have a mod conflict. I saw a (partial?) list of the mods that you have installed and more than one changes dialogue and/or Core (or Single Player) resources. Your problem is probably from one of those mods rather than from DAO. The most comprehensive dialogue fix that I know of is ZDF Dialogue fix http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/928/? The list of dialogue files fixed is extensive and the compatible mods are well documented
Katarsi
I'm pretty sure that it's not a mod conflict. I had those mods installed together before and I was careful to make them compatible with each other. I never encountered problems in-game with any other origin but the Mage. mcgoy
ok, I've never seen the problem with a Mage Origin. Good luck finding someone to correct the problem that you are seeing!
theskymoves
@Katarsi - Have you installed and used the toolset at all? If so, I suspect either altered Single Player files or some detritus left behind. Edited April 3, 2016 by theskymoves
mcgoy
TSM, there is more information at: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3964515-dialogue-problems/&do=findComment&comment=36181855 and this thread includes the list of mods:http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3949995-npc-dialogues-unraveling-on-their-own/&do=findComment&comment=36085020 Really, this is a mod or mod conflict in all probability. It sounds like someone has removed some conversation options from a Core/Single Player dlb/dlg file causing the conversation to proceed without waiting for input from the player because those options are removed. Or maybe not. Multiple files changing Core/Single Player resources, hard to tell where the problem is coming from.
Katarsi
@Katarsi - Have you installed and used the toolset at all? If so, I suspect either altered Single Player files or some detritus left behind. I have! I suspected the Toolset from the very start, to tell you the truth. And I did my best to remove it. But how is it possible that the Toolset is corrupting my game even if it has been removed and then the game reinstalled from scratch?? Edit:(after exploring the database of DAO again) mcgoy, question:You mentioned Core/Single Player... Is there supposed to be a folder Single Player in my Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/modules folder? It contains these folders:data,data_tools,env,override (toolsetexport subfolder inside),patch,patch_tools,textures (medium and patch_medium subfolders inside),toolset. They are all empty, save for the toolsetexport subfolder which contains the file SinglePlayer_en-us (TLK file).Somehow I don't remember having all that there before... mcgoy
The toolset is not corrupting your game. What you have done in the toolset may be corrupting your game. But let's start with the list of mods and what you have said: Oh, that's going to be difficult... Ok, here goes. Armor of the StenConsole - Add pointsDahlialynn's Sleep Until DawnLoincloth FashionMetaGame ItemsMore Hairstyles by KzelsamaMorozik75's Glass Weapons (Vendor)Morrigan Restoration PatchNo Helmet Hack 1.6Qunari UpdateRLs Fashion Bazaar MedRLs Fashion Bazaar MsvThe Glorious ZevranThe Phoenix ArmoryUnderworld ArmorWitcher2DAOZevranASAP DA2 equipmentAll the possible tints, skins, textures, makeup, hair and stuff that you can imagine (nicely packed together of course)White TeethDragon Age RedesignedFerelden ModelsDeathblow effectOrgolove's ArmageddonGT Core Rules FixpackTactics slotsUnobtainable item fixW2DAO cutscene glitchesGameplay effectsCompanions talk every timeParty banter on console commandGatekissesThe last night with MorriganSacred Ashes robe retexPractical DalishRendevous at the tavernShale Retextured and bigger, no chest crystalsZDFI had Winter Forge installed at some point. That's when I started playing the Mage origin, and that's when I also had installed some game fixes as well...and that's when this problem occurred. So I removed the Winter Forge, assuming that's where the problem lies, but nothing changed. In the meantime, I had installed the Toolset and started having fun creating morphs and mops. I tried removing stuff from override (like .gda files - currently there are 62 .gda files in my override, none with the same name of course) and uninstalling mods like Extra Dog Slot, to see if anything would change, but it didn't. The various combinations that I tried had given me a headache. So eventually I reinstalled the whole game, and then rearranged the dazip mods and the override ones in the way that they should work together. Still, the problem remains.and your original problem is: Hey there, it's me again... And I have a very odd problem. Again. :pinch: Some of the dialogues in my game are unraveling on their own. To be specific: I click on the NPC and they do the talking without any of my interference, as if my character has a mind of his own (and I might say that, according to the dialogue choices that he makes, his mind is rather shallow). Also, during the dialogue there are no conversational subtitles and my dialogue options aren't showing as well.So far, the "problematic" NPCs are Danal in Lothering (Dane's Refuge tavern), Bodahn at camp and Kester the boatman at Mage's Tower. As I said, I click on them, and the dialogue goes on its own, without showing neither the titles nor dialogue options, as if the whole thing is done by default. The worst is Danal however, because my character keeps choosing the "any other news" option and Danal never stops answering it, making it necessary to forcibly exit the game. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out which mod is causing this maddening bug/glitch/whatever. And I can't continue the game properly for obvious reasons.Help? Thoughts? You have a number of mods that change Core/Single Player resources. Morrigan Restoration, the last night with Morrigan, Companions talk every time, ZDF (if it is the dialogue fix), and numerous others that may change dialogue and dialogue related files. Some of the dialogues in my game are unraveling on their own. To be specific: I click on the NPC and they do the talking without any of my interference, as if my character has a mind of his own (and I might say that, according to the dialogue choices that he makes, his mind is rather shallow). Also, during the dialogue there are no conversational subtitles and my dialogue options aren't showing as well.Is this the English version of the game or did you buy a different language and 'convert' it to English? That's when I started playing the Mage origin, and that's when I also had installed some game fixes as well...and that's when this problem occurredSpecifically, which game fixes did you install? Your best bet would be to delete all of the mods (including removing them from the packages/override folder) that change Core/Single Player resources and see if the problem still occurs. What you are describing sounds like someone (you or a mod you have installed) has removed or set conditions within the dlg/dlb file so that your other conversation options don't exist. This will cause 'the game' to appear to continue selecting the only available conversation option and will cause 'the game' to continuously loop through the conversation. If all you did was create head morphs, this isn't something that you have done and is entirely unrelated to the toolset.
Katarsi
Thank you for the extensive response, mcgoy  It is the English version of the game. Those game fixes don't matter now, because I had them uninstalled and then uninstalled the whole game. I re-installed the game without adding them afterwards. The problem remains. Please refer to my previous post where I asked about the Single Player folder and that TLK file. Is it supposed to be there, or is it just a remnant of unsuccessfully uninstalled Toolset? Update:That's it! That's what it was! That TLK file in the SIngle Player folder! I deleted it (and all other folders in the Single Player folder), then loaded the save in Lothering, talked to Danal and everything is working fine!I suppose it really was a remnant of my tinkering with the Toolset. I did only make head morphs, but I also had to explore the Toolset a bit, and it seems that I really have (unwillingly) messed up something. Anyway, thank you mcgoy, and thanks to theskymoves for pointers in solving my problem! *hugs* I sincerely hope that this may be a good reference if anyone experiences odd occurrences in their game after uninstalling the Toolset.
