Kaedran
Ok first of all, my specs:2.80 Ghz Pentium 4 Processor512MB of RAMNvidia GeForce Fx 5200SoundMax Integrated DIgital Audio Ok so i open oblivion, starts out fine and dandy. Sure, the quality sucks but it runs.. Untill a certain point: Either right after i get a class from bauras or whenever i fast travel or whatever. After most of the tutorial it crashes on me in all places except for some areas when i use coc in the console and most areas in the testing hall. Now, I discussed this with my Uncle, who said an upgrade on my graphics card might help, but he also suggested I look on forums and see if anyone else might know what the answer to my situation is. So to put it simply, i'm asking this: How can i get Oblivion to stop crashing?
Valince
Hey pal I kind of had the same problem where my game crashed while i was playing, and that showed up to be because my framerate went too low, because i had put the graphic details too high, then i turned down the resolution (or what it is called) to 800x600 and cut down the shadow filther and blood decay and so on and SHAZAM it worked perfectly (although it's not as beautifull as before :glare: but anyway) but since you run Oblivion with lower quallity you, bigger graphiccard might be the solution, but 1024 RAM would do you good too. in the oblivion readme you can find a list of all the supported graphiccards so if you are planing on getting a new one you should choose one of them. but i'm not sure (no one is when is comes to computers  ) so you should ask someone who knows more about it, just to make sure
Karasuman
I think Valince is correct. Your problem is most likely a combo platter. I'd ditch the 5200 and get a better card, since it is well below the minimum requirement. Get more RAM if possible. The 512MB the game lists as a minimum is a joke. I'd add at least another 512MB, if not more. I'd be willing to bet that if those two things were fixed, the game would stop crashing, at least as much. You'll never rid yourself completely of crashes in an ES game. My computer is well above the recommended requirement, and both Morrowind and Oblivion still find creative ways to piss me off by crashing every now and then. That's our goal though, to get to that "every now and then" stage. For Oblivion to crash every once in awhile is (sadly) normal. Other things that can help prevent crashes: 1. Turn off anti-virus/anti-spyware software prior to running the game. 2. Turn off unnecessary processes in the background before running the game. 3. Increase page file size. 4. Make sure you don't have any viruses/trojans. 5. If you use mods, make sure they don't conflict with other mods. (Oblivion Mod Manager, available on this site, can tell you whether certain mods conflict). 6. Make sure your computer's on-board graphics drivers are disabled (this can be checked in the Device Manager).

Switch
Are you running setup.exe straight from the disk? Because it should allow you to uninstall from there when you get that error message. EDIT: Removed your other thread... I don't think you need another one going while you've mentioned it in this one. Though in it you did confirm that this problem is happening with the setup on the DVD. In which case you probably need to manually remove Oblivion and regedit... I know someone posted a guide somewhere here but I don't remember where. Can someone find it?
Kaedran
Are you running setup.exe straight from the disk? Because it should allow you to uninstall from there when you get that error message.By that do you mean something like this?:I insert the disc, then go to My Computer, right click the disk, explore, open the launcher and click uninstall. That is how i get the error message.--EDIT--I have also tried ControlPanel>Add\Remove Programs and got the same message.
Abramul
The two executables in the main directory of the DVD are OblivionLauncher.exe and setup.exe. Use the latter.
Kaedran
The two executables in the main directory of the DVD are OblivionLauncher.exe and setup.exe. Use the latter.mk--EDIT--I did that, and it uninstalled Oblivion, so i reinstall, but for some reason it crashes on me when I press Esc to skip everything. I've tried waiting it out, but it still crashes on me.
