Pyrosocial
For those of you who who know, space marine will be coming out soon. I for one am very excited about this and have it preordered. I found out today that there will a pre order bonus for gamestop. "Emperor's Finest"It includes two space marine chapter armors to play with in game, both founding chapters; The Black Templars, and The Space Wolves. Personally, I want some Grey Knight and Dark Angel armor, but I'll take what I can get :P =][=
Vindekarr
I got the special edition on pre-order already, though I'd say my favorite chapters would be the Ultramarines, Howling Griffons, Mentor Legion, Blood Angels, Imperial Fists, and Black Templars(who are former Imperial Fists who followed one of the chapter's captains into a life of crusading, rather than the typicaly defensive castellanm lifestyle of the Fists) Oh and the Lamenters obvious. We can't have Space Marine without the Lamenters. Just imagine winning a match online as a Lamenter? heh, worth it. I think it looks great, and even if it isn't it's one to have tried anyway. To me it looks like Gears Of War, a LOT like Gears Of War, and I like that, because I really like Gears Of War, even if I am a hopeless noob at it. It's just the little things too, like that the UltraMarines are British-voiced, and the way everything looks so grand and gothic-but faded, rusty, and muddy. Can't wait. For those not in the know, a Space Marine is a former human that's been modified, geneticaly and cyberneticaly, into a three-metre-tall hercules in shining powerarmour. A neat mix of a Halo SPARTAN archetype, mixed with a medieval fantasy White Knight, Space Marines represent both the ultimate good, and the ultimate evil in the extremely grim WarHammer 40,000 universe. Space Marines are split into about a thousand chapters, each chapter is essentialy a nation in itself-a Raven Guard would look absolutely unrecogniseable next to a Salamander or a Space Wolf-your Chapter defining not only your history, and culture, but also your physical traits, such as the Salamder's amazing affinity for fire, nobility of spirit, skill at forging and near immunity to radiation, or the Space Wolf's incredible, near-telepathic group coordination, ferocity of spirit, and sense of smell, thus having more chapters is of vital importance. Not all Space Marines are good though, some, like the Salamanders, Ultramarines, and Imperial Fists believe that protecting innocent people is justification enough to get involved in a war, while the Dark Angels, Iron Hands, and Blood Angels are more aloof, and tend to only get into conflicts over tacticaly important colonies, or their own territory. Other still are called Chaos Space Marines, renegade formers who lost their sanity and turned to serving the "daemonic" presences that dwell within the dimension known as The Warp. Chaos Space Marines typicaly take to worshipping the four main warp entities, Slaanesh, Khorne, Nurgle, and Tzeench as gods, and range from extremely organised warbands bent on destroying the Imperium, the closest thing to goodguys in WarHammer, to loose coalitions of barbarians, driven mad by Khorne's bloodlust, who rampage across the galaxy on a haphazard path seeking only to kill and take blood and skulls for their sociopathic overlords. Pyrosocial
Space Marine history lesson FTW XD What all does the special addition come with? I like the Dark Angels due to their conspiracy with Lion el'jonson and how they almost turned to chaos. Yeah the game looks stunning, one of the things that impressed me in the E3 coverage was when it showed the outskirts of a forge and if you looked into the distance you could see a warlord weapon arm hanging over a crane. The plot seems interesting too, though I don't see how Orks can command a titan, not to mention a warlord at that, when the princeps is linked with the engine. I am also looking forward to kicking some traitor 'rines heads in with a loyalist boot >:)
Vindekarr
Well, it's not so much the titans themselves but the weaponry and technology. Orkz have an amazing affinity for technology but limited ability to invent it for themsevles, instead, Orkz learn by looting and then reverse-engineering what they don't smash for the sake of fun. Orkz would probably be unable to pilot a Titan, but they would probably dissect them, and gain valuable info about their workings. If Orkz could make their own version of a Titan's Heart(plasma reactor) then just imagine what they could do with all that electricity-Orkz do have energy weapons, but the main thing holding them back is the need for immense petrol generators, with plasma... And don't think they couldn't learn it either-Orkz don't forget technology like humans do, once one clan has something, it tends to propegate since Mekboyz somehow seem to share data. When waaagh Ghazkul reached Armageddon the final time, it deployed a new form of teleporter that has since been seen on other ork tribes than his-implying that technology spreads throughout greenskin tribes like ink in water. I want to see the Lamenters chapter get added. And who are they? The Lamenters are quite simply the primary form of Comic Relief among the Space Marines. The Lamenters are decended... were decended from Blood Angels, but somehow managed to find a cure for The Curse (the vampirism) that effects anyone born of Blood Angels stock) yet for some reason this cursed them with supernatural bad luck. After a millenia of living out every possible bit of misfortune that possibly could have befallen them, they ended up on the side of chaos during the Badab War, the Lamenters went on a crusade of penance, and blundered into the very center of one of the largest Hive Fleets that ever existed. It is assumed they are all dead. Colours: mustard yellow with white, badge/banner: red or pink loveheart. The Badab War was probably the only known war ever fought between loyalist Space Marines. In Badab, the Astral Claws decided that they had had enough of having to pay a tythe of gene-seed(a small, artificialy designed organ in the Space Marine's chest cavity, contains their full genetic data blueprint, aswell as controlling all their other implants) and withheld all further tythes. The politcal scuffle became heated, as such things always do with the temperamental Space Marines, push came to shove, and the Astral Claws, Executioners, Mantis Warriors, Lamenters and a small few others found themselves fighting against their own battle-brothers in what can only be described as an utter debarkle. Afterwoulds, the Astral Claws fled into the Eye Of Terror as a newly formed Chaos warband, while the Mantis Warriors and Executioners were pardoned by the Emperor, with the Mantis going extinct shortly after, followed by the Lamenters. Winterfall
Winterfall...that is freaking awesome O.O! When i saw Bethesda's take on the Brotherhood of Steel, the first thing that came to my mind is 40k's Space Marines. When Relic announced that they'll support custom badges for Retribution i instantly knew what i wanted my Space Marine chapter to be.
Vindekarr
Yes, the Imperial Fists are very much a defensive, rather than and offensive powerhouse. Extremely talented fortress builders, and with the martial skill and personal strength to hold the line in impossible circumstances and overwhelming odds, they were chosen as the Astartes chapter to protect the Emperor, and the palace. Only half the chapter actualy does this however-after the Horus Heresy the chapter split in half, with half becoming returning to Terra to take up their castellan duties at the Imperial Fortress, and half splitting off to become the Black Templars. During the years before the Horus Heresy, Rogal Dorn, the primarch of the Imperial Fists, forsaw and end to the endless warring of the Great Crusade, his First Captain however, believed that the galaxy-wide conflict would never end, and that the Great Crusade would become a seemingly endless undertaking requiring thousands of years to be even partialy complete. High Marshal, and Emperor's Champion Sigismund left the chapter after the Horus Heresy to begin his own vast crusade, followed by some of the best of the Imperial Fists. The Black Templars have been on their crusade ever since, for ten thousand years they have waged a constant war, the longest crusade of any Imperial force in the Empire's long history. They also have no permenant base-unlike many chapters they are Fleet Based, traveling nomadicaly from warzone to warzone. They are also one of the most well known Successor chapters, having participated strongly at Armageddon and other setpiece battles, but also having a strong history of loyalty to the Emperor and and unflinching desire to wage constant warfare on the enemies of humanity. http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_Fists http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Templars
Pyrosocial
Interesting. I was able to see the Fist in action when I watched Ultramarines. A company(100 battle-brothers) defended an imperial temple against a Black Legion siege for a week, untill the warp opened and they were overrun. Which chapter do the Custodus come from? Winterfall, can you please make me a brotherhood outcast pic? Please? I want to use it as my profile pic :D Also, do you play tabletop any? I'm working on my first table top unit; a scratch built baneblade super heavy :P I'll make a thread for it when its done. Vindekarr
Custodes aren't Space Marines, they're an entirely seperate race of Genhanced called Adeptes Custodes. More closely related to a Primarch than a Space Marine, the Space Marine's own genetic and cybernetic modifications are, in the word's of a Custodes "Similar to our own... yet simplified, streamlined, and made more practical for mass production" Custodes are larger.. a fair bit larger, more physicaly durable, a little bit stronger, have better reach, and slightly better endurance. They also are trained in a completely diferent way. Custodes are the Emperor's bodyguard, they protect him no matter the cost, and they protect the Palace no matter the cost. While the Imperial Fists are the Castellans of the Fortess Of Terra, the Custodes are the sternguard elite that stand at the Emperor's side during the day and night to protect him from anything that can get past the Fists. They also constantly enlarge and improve the Fortress itself-from the earliest days of their existance, the Custodes have played the Blood Games, where one or a few Custodes are charged with assasinating the Emperor, and then go forth to do that. Usualy starting on Mars, the Wolf then does absolutely anything they can to get to the palace and then get within-usualy the Blood Games see the Custodes successful, but sometimes the cunning Wolf finds a Asian in the Palace' defenses, and thus warns the others of this when he gets home. This is how the Palace grows in strength every day-the Custodes design, the Fists build, and the result is the most invincible fortress in the universe. http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Adeptus_Custodes
