Campaigner
Don't quite know if this would be allowed to be uploaded here or not, but willing to ask anyway. I was browsing models and skins for Team Fortress 2, just to get something new and fresh. I came upon this unusual gun:"The Soda Popper" - http://www.gamebanana.com/skins/99028 In short, it's a double barrel shotgun that has really short barrels, a broken stock that's held together by tape, and a soda can attached to the bottom of the barrels as a grip, once again by tape. This is a community-made weapon that was put into the upcoming update for the Scout, as not-so-secretly hunted in Tuesday's blog update. My request? A Fallout: New Vegas remake of this marvelous weapon! It shouldn't be that difficult, but I can't model very well so I don't know if I'm spouting nonsense on that or not. If made, I'd like it to be a simple shotgun. Reload it like a double barrel shotgun, muzzle flash in the right spot, etc. Don't want the soda can shown in the original, but as the Pork n' Beans can or a can with an easy to replace texture in the event I want to make my own. hadoumastery
Wouldn't be allowed to upload even if someone did make it. Although you could at least come close to it by modifying a certain 2h animation and making the sawn off 12 gauge into a 2h weapon I think. Moraelin
Hmm? Why wouldn't it be allowed to upload? I mean, obviously just copying meshes and textures is verboten, but it looks like a mesh that can be reasonably made from scratch.
rausheim
If you make the mesh and textures your self or someone else that gives you permission to use their work, there is no problem.
hadoumastery
Yeah but that gun looks like the intelectual property of a game dev of some sorts.
Moraelin
Unless it's a trademark, it doesn't count.
ub3rman123
We can make recreations of things, but not direct content ripping.
rausheim
Yeah but that gun looks like the intelectual property of a game dev of some sorts. So with your logic, I would be breaking the law on several of my mods where I've re-created the weapons from some movies. Yeah, make sense. Anyone know a good lawyer? Might need a good one too as the movie industry usually are more resourcefull than gaming industry! ^^
Campaigner
Man oh man, I expected a dead thread with zero interest, but instead it's COPYRIGHT left and right. As an art student in college, I went over this stuff as a required course, for obvious reasons that I need to point out due to the brutal teachings. To simplify; It IS infringing copyright by doing the following:>Claiming an idea as your own>directly stealing and issuing out someone else's work under your name>taking parts of an existing idea or product and using it in your own without permission It is NOT infringement in the following manner:>Homage with proper credit to the original idea>express written permission from the author/creator of the original idea>you create it from scratch to look similar without commercial reproduction for profit (Fanart is a bit iffy on this, but for the most part, this is what my suggestion falls under) I made sure that this would not be copyright infringement because I stated that it shouldn't be the exact same soda can, as the fallout one for Pork n' Beans is more appropriate, and one can easily replicate the model or parts of it through some blender/3Dmax splicing. There are many mods that use the base form of an item that is currently in the game, but edited enough that it isn't a direct model download of the original. I understand the confusion you guys are having, as I was once in that same position. If this would break copyright laws, most of the site's mods for weapons and armor would be too, however they are homages; images made that reflect the inspiration.
