Game Lags In Combat

I would like to suggest something here if you pop back into this thread:

Install the Oblivion Graphics Extender. It looks great and doesn't kill FPS.

Also, here's one possible solution to the lag occurring because you hit enemies: Disable blood decals. It barely makes a noticeable difference, and they can even cause crashes with high poly armor.

Turning the volume down is NOT the same as turning all sound off. All of the sounds are still played, you just don't hear them any more - they still take exactly the same amount of computer clock cycles whether they are at full volume or zero volume. And it's clock cycles that really matter here, not volume.

Turning off sounds for troubleshooting does not mean leaving it off forever, just for testing to find out if the problem is caused (or partly caused) by in game sounds or music.

An integrated sound system means that the sound system is using the CPU and system ram to play sounds. It is stealing clock cycles from the CPU causing some slow down, and stealing RAM leaving you with less RAM to play the game. How much it is stealing will depend on your particular system. And this is only one thing out of many that can cause your game to slow down.

Another thing to try is the Memory, Loading and Multithreading tweaks on this page of Koroush Ghazi's Oblivion Tweak Guide. There are also some suggestions on the page previous to the Memory tweak page for decals (blood splatters) that may help.
