Roaming Settlers

If they're assigned a job (and preferably a bed) they should stay in the settlement they're assigned to...excepting Provisioners, of course. Settlers that aren't assigned jobs show up and if they're not given something to do eventually they go scavving. The game will auto-assign them to things like crops, but unless you do it yourself it doesn't really stick, afaik.

You can also occasionally encounter individuals named "settler" just randomly throughout the game as a special encounter. So they may not always be actual settlers at one of your settlements, especially if you see them in areas not near any of your settlements.

The AI on settlers is so bland. I hope it can be improved eventually, either through patching or a mod once the Geck comes out.

John I feel you. I have missing settlers alot. The beds are assigned and jobs given..go to the settlement and no one is there but the guards (20 settlers and I see 6). They have food, water, beds, Surgery Stall, Food stall, Trader Stall, and clothes stall, lights, and a trade route. In one settlement I found them hanging around across the settlement and I could not reassign them because they were out of the area. I rang the bell and waited 30 real time minutes and they just stood there.

I wish there was a way to actually call them into the settlement (the bell does nothing). It is bad enough they stand around looking stupid instead of doing their assigned jobs (exception for the guards they do their job). Bes needs to code something into the game that if they are not fighting they must remain in the settlement or give control to the player to be able to go beyond the boundries to retrieve the idiots. Or both because I still have missing settlers that I never see but the info on the settlement keeps telling me that I have this number of settlers when I do not.

I am usually patient in games.. but the settlers worked my nerve so bad one day... I killed off a whole settlement every stinking idiot I could find (I did load to a earlier save though)..

I mean they aren't actually doing their jobs and they cry and whine about everything ( except the guards) ..it just broke all my nerves..

Have a lot of hours in this run.. but what happens if I just kill them off and go about questing? Will new settlers spawn?

-.-

I have had this problem a lot at Croup Manor and eventually I found out that many of them were just outside the perimeter wall beside the sea and a couple were actually swimming.

My Greentop is weird with my settlers. Everyone has a job yet they all sit around the campfire or inside. I ring the bell and they obey. I reassign them and they wander off inside or go back to the campfire.

In the end I transferred everyone to other settlements, except the 2 who can't be moved. Upon visiting the other settlements and assigning them jobs they were fine. No slacking off. For some reason they won't work at Greentop.

I haven't had issues anywhere else.

In Far Harbor the scavver often patrols way outside the green zone. But I guess that's normal for that job in all settlements.

Is it something to do with the greenhouse ? I built a nice greenhouse at Echo Lake Lumber but they often just stand in a little huddle near Codsworth who I dismissed there for crowding me.

Country Crossing...Is the one I was referring too.. They go across the road outside the boundaries and just stand there. Some are just missing tanking the happiness score because they are unassigned and they are nowhere to be found. I kid you not a few settlements I have 20 settlers and when I go there I see 6 or 7 (guards) and no signs of any others. If I delete a bed the guard will say they are complaining about beds.. So where are these complainers? They need a homing beacon, so when they are not fighting they stay in the settlement. The bell does not work....lol.
