Jeffman12
Hardcore mode started a modest uproar over the fact that it gave sodas and alcohol a +H2O effect. In reality, compared to water, these drinks cause a net loss in bodily water levels. This fact is frequently met with "But soda doesn't make me thirsty or kill me in real life, so it's wrong." In truth, these effects are not immediate. Hangovers don't happen until the alcohol in your system has been processed and caffeinated drinks need to be metabolized in your intestines before such an ill effect is realized. However, soda and beer drinkers world wide have noticed that these beverages still manage to quench one's thirst. This leads me to my idea. I looked a bit for an existing version of this, but was unable to find it:Soda and alcoholic drinks have a -H2O effect that is administered over time, and upon wearing off, the drinks in question have a sharp +H2O effect to grant better realism.Essentially, the drink will prevent you from gaining thirst for a time by matching or exceeding your natural +H2O rate with a -H2O rate, and at the end it hits you with a +H2O slightly higher than the total negated effect. This gives these drinks a better use by not dehydrating you on the spot and actually acting as a kind of carry over so that you can drink it to allow you to get to the next water source without facing the negative effects right away. I'll probably have to explain this more clearly, but I can't think of a better wording for it at the moment.

Jeffman12
Basically your saying they Bring down the Dehydration then when they're duration's are up they give the Usual dehydration?Pretty much. I think that would somewhat accurately portray the effects of such beverages, at least as far as a game is concerned.
ozziefire
Yeah I guess it's a matter of how realist you want to get, my gut feel is if trapped in the desert for 3 days with nothing but a box of soda or beer I'm not sure you would live longer by not drinking it than drinking it. In reality the type of armor should also dehydrate you too differently. Cooling suits for power armor perhaps :)
