Speeding up oblivion...

Well I installed Oblivion on my new PC and i think

the specs are more than enough to run oblivion

flawelessy, i mean im able to play other games that

used to lag a lot like MMORPG's.

Here are the specs of my PC:

Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits (up to date)

4 GB RAM

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E7500 2.93 & 2.94 GHZ

Mother board - Biostar G41D3C

Video Card - Intel G41 Xpress Chipset

1.3 GB Video RAM

Max Resolution 1600 x 900

I think that's more than enough, no?

Aniway i researched a lot and made some tweaking on the

INI files on oblivion and even so i dont see any significant

perfomance boost, i have also read that shadows and grass

display eat way too many CPU power thus lowering FPS...

Even tough i togle grass and shadows of its still slow, dont

get me wrong i get a somewhat playable speed and im fine

with that, it's in various parts the game lags a lot like on

interiors or parts with massive amounts of trees and grass...

Like on shadowleaf cope...

Any way any other ways of making this game run faster??

i think its the game thats slow not the pc...

Ram -> Good

Processor -> OK

G41 Intel Chipset -> Wont work

Oblivion runs properly on(and above):

9600 GT

GTS 250

GTS 450

GTX 550Ti

You Need a Graphic Card to run Oblivion on Max Settings :)

for now you can only play between Low to Medium Setting

Good luck

Well i have heard that if you change the Shadders clock on the grapics card bios

you can greatly boost oblivion's perfomance and with g41 intel chipset im able to play

games that requiere far greater requiriments or even have exagerated specs to run

properly and i play then perfectly well, like for example:

Love death 4 its a eroge tough but its specs are too exagerated and i can play it fine,

it even need almost double of everything oblivion needs...

I'll try to see if i can change the shadders clock speed and if i buy an Nvidia video card

will it work well with my mother board??

Edit:

BTW, my video card has shadders version 4.0 does that affect perfomance in any way??

No

only enough to crawl

not enough to run

i think its the game thats slow not the pc...

Its clearly your pc

you can

turn off sound (various options and mods)

turn off wind (takes mods)

reduce resolution

turn off all shadows, grass

reduce drawing distance

abandon all hope of running any eye candy mods

Is that so?? because even tough im still able to play quite fine, i can run the game a quite smoothly

gras does eat speed yes and shadows too but i keep them at minimum and stii get playable speeds, also

im using eye candy mods and that havent slow down the game even one bit...

I guess the ini tweaking helped too by changing some settings and some pople told me that VSYNC slows

down the game a lot but in my case it actually made it run faster and the resolution on the screen didnt affect

it all that much, i was playing before on 1024 and now on 1600 and the speed is the same...

Besides turning off all that makes the game relly boring, only when i really need a speed boost i prefer

to use the console command TLB, thats better for me than make the game graphically ugly...

I have read many guides and with some effort and search i managed to retain very good graphic

beauty in-game and still retain FPS and even boost them.

Well every bit of info is welcome too and if you guys have any speed up tips without making the game

too errr boring please share them, even if they make the game plain still post them, i can make some

use of them.

Not a single mod i have downloaded inluded eye candy mods slows down my game...

Aniway i found better ini twaks and now i can play the game in maximum settings with decent

speeds, the lag is almost non existant now!!!

Now im satisfied hahaa

*makes backups of setting files and twak pages...*

I just changed some values on the oblivion default on install directory and oblivion.ini on the save directory.

That and i clocked up the shaders on my video card and oblivion now runs smoothly even on maximum setting!!!

Ahh and i guess the energy settings were affecting oblivion perfomance too since i was using the equilibred

setting instead of maximum perfomance, the video card driver the same it was at equilibred setting hahaha.

Aniway if i buy an Nvidia video card would that make things easier for other games as well and does my mother

board support Nvidia cards??

  • 2 years later...

I have terrible PC specs but my Oblivion runs at 130 FPS when outside but on interior it runs at 175 FPS.

This is because i have set the game screen resolution to the smallest wide screen setting. The game window is

still big and can be viewed and it should speed up! If this does not help then turn your textures down to lowest setting

and install some mods that decrease the textures to make the game faster.
