Afracnicus
I enjoy playing through Fallout 4 but it's lacking in depth, in many areas. A lot of recent mods have helped make it much better though, thank you! I'm playing as a high stealth, rifle only class, which has proved very successful! I've added Mods that overhaul enemy spawns and legendary enemies + legendary packs which makes things more interesting. But it was the portable sleeping bag mod that gave me an idea. I know some of this is sort of there in game but it doesn't feel how I hope this would feel. There's also a lot here I know so thank you for reading haha. I'm aware it may also be difficult to program and finally I'm open to opinions, refinements and discussion on these ideas. To add realism, depth and a more immersion. It would be great to have dynamic relations between factions of raiders and mutants, that is continually in flux. Each individual faction having its own personality. Factors that constitute personality could be : brutality, size of faction, intentions, location, whoever is leading the faction (leaders could vary depending on internal power struggles, if the player has killed them or if they die accidentally etcetera etcetera). The personality of a faction affecting how they behave. Furthermore having relations between these factions, so some may be at war with each other. Others may have alliances, for the purpose of taking out a mutant faction for example or simply to be able to raid bigger settlements and control a larger area of the commonwealth. Furthermore it would be nice and now have context, for all these factions to be doing things in the commonwealth. Killing, looting, taking prisoners from other factions, mini faction wars, searching for some mysterious relic the crazy leader wants, slavery, drug manufacturing & dealing, gun running or manufacture (factions could take over and own factories, re-purposing them. Perhaps kidnapping a doctor, engineer or chemist from local settlements). Also to have these factions fluctuate in power and geographical location. Could also get diamond city more involved than just posting the occasional wanted notice on the board. Maybe a gang captures and releases a deathclaw into diamond city and your hired to find out who! I think inspiration could be taken from interesting mechanics (that have a lot of potential) from the game Shadow of Mordor, regarding how Saurons army fluctuated. Maybe faction leaders you fail to kill remembering you. Or a raider you let live becomes very powerful but paranoid about your character because you blew all his raider mates heads off with a 50 cal sniper at point blank range. Each gang, as I said has a personality, which could be affected by what they do. One gang runs drugs for people and maybe even other gangs? So all of them are on something when you fight or talk to them, making them a bit more crazy and unpredictable. A gang who makes guns could just all be equipped with superior weaponry. Perhaps one gang is really into electronics (like a worse brotherhood) and have a raider-fied sentry bot that helps them out. Having all this going on in the commonwealth, I would want to get involved with these factions. Not just killing them but tracking them or staking out a stronghold in wait for a drug or gun shipment or prisoners or saving some captured settlers. Perhaps just looking to kill the leader of a faction who was rumoured (more notes on dead raiders, some alluding to bigger plans or marking areas on the map where there main base is - essentially you should be able to find information that has more dynamic influence, not just a freaky story) to be hiding out in a certain area or in disguise. Maybe killing some raiders you stumble across happen to be part of a bigger raider faction who attempts to hunt you down or puts a bounty on your head. Plus more diplomatic relations (although morally questionable?!?!?), such as getting paid by one faction/gang to take out another gang. Maybe become part of a raider or mutant gang. I'd say at least 1/3 of all the factions/gangs should not try to kill you on the spot. Combined with the general presence of the Brotherhood and Institute appearing around causing havoc and hopefully interacting with these new gangs. Would be great. Also I'd like to be able to send all the brotherhood dog tags I collected from killing them and like send them to the Prydwen as a "F*** You" just for fun. Hopefully with some sort of enraged brotherhood response, like hunted by several vertibirds or just a much bigger brotherhood presence for a while and patrolling brotherhood suddenly have twice as big groups. Finally it would be nice to have a reputation based on the style of your play. Because I'm stealth and snipe from far away, it would be cool if a few raider gangs had heard of someone killing everyone in an area (like reported on diamond city radio sometimes) except they came up with a nickname for you or started having everyone on patrol at night because they know that all these attacks happened at night. Maybe some raiders run away or surrender to you because of your reputation, so your rep actually has a tangible influence on the game play; like when everyone hears John Wick (movie) is back they all s*** themselves. Also as a sniper it would be cool to lay down (perhaps makes you more hidden/harder to detect) and set up the bipod on the end of my sniper. If I'm in day light it would be cool to worry about sun reflection off the scope if I'm not positioned properly, so sometimes you might just alert the raiders your trying to snipe. Also it would be cool to be able to scale buildings you can't walk inside, so as to get a better vantage point (as a sniper this is important!); so maybe a grapple hook (grapple hook gun?) that you then climb up things with. Should have some drawback so it's more realistic, cost some AP or has durability. If you find a note as well, would be cooler if you had it in your hand and held it up to read it rather than looking at it like the objects in the loading screens. Hopefully that's relatively clear on what I'm getting at; here is the game fantasy I had, if this helps. So I imagined hearing a rumour in the commonwealth about some really brutal raider gang that was on the rise. Perhaps I find out their name and track down a rival gang and kill nearly all of them, the last surrendering and giving me information on the other gangs, hideouts for example. Kill everyone at the hideout and then wait and stake out the place from a far (thank you portable sleeping bag). Some further gang members turn up, half of which head back to the main base to report what happened - would be cool to then track these guys (tracking mechanics? You'r automatically woken up when they start to move from a temporary camp. Unless your already awake that is. Get HUD info on where they went if you click on certain things in an ex-camp-site idk? Follow a trail or get Dog meat to smell and tracks something from the camp site). Then slaughter the group I tracked just outside, to alert the stronghold I'm coming for them and freak them out. Like Batman Arkham Asylum and freaking out enemies. Perhaps capture a raider strap a bomb to him and tell him to walk into the camp (obviously then blowing him up!) Basically I want my actions to have impact upon the wasteland and for things to be a little less static. So it's not just stumble across some raider or mutants and kill them. Top factions/gangs should have individual and much harder legendaries in them. If you want a player to purge the wasteland or create more chaos then the game should entice you to do so. Thanks for reading.
minngarm
Already been a few talks about doing more in depth raider factions. It's something I'm considering in dabbling in but not at the get go for the CK.
ddavies10693
Mods similar to this (but nit quite as large in scope) were somewhat common in Skyrim, so hopefully it migrates here. the only problem is this: dying and coming back to life was part of the lore in that game, like Dark souls kind of. In this game, when you die, the entire world literally resets to your last save, so I'm not sure it's possible for an enemy to gain power after killing you, for example, like in Shadow of Mordor because of the game's mechanics, not even factoring in lore. Also running away and hiding mechanics would have to be tweeked for this to work as well. Very ambitious idea, but done well, it could be pretty great. Afracnicus
Ah, that's cool. I think it would certainly be awesome! Cheers minngarmI hope they do! Yeah that's a good point. Plus the individuality of the Orc captains and specific abilities are intertwined with the combat mechanics. My only idea could be, for example: Adapting to your 'tactics', these being data on whether you'r a Melee Character or Gun preference (Pistols, Heavy Guns, Snipers...). Maybe also how close you like to get into combat when you kill. So they respond more accordingly based on that (or something a bit more complex?). How they find out though, through battle or perhaps just based on your renown - the more renown (or notoriety) you attain, the more factions are prepared for you, scared of you etc. The game would just have to factor it in, when spawning things. Unlike Mordor unfortunately but similar and then when you die in Fallout, it isn't affected because renown is a set variable. Perhaps instead of gaining power by killing you, maybe most damaged you and survived? Or just survived haha Also maybe some NPC's could level through random encounters, as a raider I'd probably be buzzin and more respected if I killed a deathclaw! Idk about the hiding mechanics :/Yeah maybe too ambitious, but would be great! Thanks ddavies10693
