I've been having the same crashing area around the middle of the map and I have updated drivers and L.O.O.T. sorted and F04EDIT ran and I still am crashing like a drunk frat girl. Here is my load order:

I wonder if anyone found the cause of this issue?

I'm running quite an extensive list of mods, but only have constant crashes in Bunker Hill and surrounding area. It's fine everywhere else in Commonwealth, but area around Bunker Hills seem cursed. Extremely low fps a bit north of Cabot House and constant crashing. Even simply loading a save before the gates of Bunker Hill crashes the game. This is new game - I used coc command. In the previous playthrough I somehow made a stable save in Bunker Hill, but had instant, 100% reproducible crash while trying to walk to Cabot House.

I am also having this problem but it just started recently. It's in/around Monsignor Plaza, which breaks the Railroad escort quest. I'm bypassing it through the console but I still can't party in the plaza.

 

I've had many seemingly random crashes around the map, but a consistent one around Mass Pike Interchange. Turned out to be a mod (Mercenary pack), maybe you have the same issue.

I know this is kind of an old thread, but I actually started having CTDs a few days ago, and I tried everything.

 

First I removed everything that was potentially causing FPS issues. Didn't work.

Secondly I deleted a the roofmetal texture that was causing a lot of issues for people. Also didn't work

Then I tried a save cleaner, reinstalled, tried that county crossing CTD fix, disabled all large mods that changed NPC behavior and made use of scripts. None of it worked

 

Finally, I went through my 250+ mods 5-15 at a time and found the culprit: an old mod that affected the animation of guards standing at their posts (I'm obsessed with immersion).

Honestly, I forgot I even had it. Never for a second did I think something so small and seemingly innocuous would cause my game to be unplayable, but there you have it.

 

The mod's been discontinued, is no longer on the Nexus, and I can't remember it's name (sorry). But my point is, that sometimes it's something that you would never suspect. Hopefully you're smarter than me and you can circumvent having to reboot your FO4 a dozen times with different mods on, but yeah check your mods... Especially older, outdated mods that you may have forgotten about.

 

Honestly I was ready to give up on my game, but I'm glad I was persistent. Anyways, maybe you aren't as inept with technology as I am, but if you are it's something to consider.

 

Edit: Woops never mind I found it.

It was the Guard Post Weapon Drawn Animation.

I can't believe this is still a thing. Both the Cabot House exterior, and Boston Commons, CTD within 10 seconds of entering either area. This is with ANY combination of mods. More than several times I have restarted my entire game with a new character and cheat myself to those areas to test, and every single time I'll find some mods that I THINK cause the crash, start my game and play for real, waste 15 hours, and it crashes anyway. It's almost as if the game deliberately plays ok when I'm just testing, but only decides to crash when I've already invested time into actually playing the game.

 

I've dealt with this problem for several months and so sick and tired of it. It's usually crap like this happening why I never end up playing the DLC's of Bethesda games.

It seems that setting both "bUseCombinedObjects" and "bUsePreCulledObjects" in my Fallout4.ini to "1" and staying away from mods that modify Bunker Hill helps, even if just a little. I'm still getting the crashes, but they are not 100% reproducible.

This is what I've found in my own testing, there is no one mod to blame for crashing in the specific areas for most of these cases nor does it seem to be any one combination. I don't have any mods altering the area around Monsignor plaza. Yet I'll get crashes in that area. If I turn them all off I can enter but as I turn them back a few at a time the performance in that area gets worse until instant CTD. Doesn't matter what order I turn them back on in, two day of testing doesn't reveal a smoking gun, and looking at load orders of people complaining of similar problems doesn't reveal anything either.

It just seems past so many mods active the area becomes unplayable new or old games. Now In the past I've gotten around this by slowly circling the crash zone saving every so often and inching closer and closer until I can finally enter the necessary building in the area or even wander around.

The fact that if I enter slowly enough and from the right angle I can explore the crash zone led me to believe the game is crashing because there isn't enough RAM to load the area OR the game is using up all available ram to load the area and there isn't anything left.

So I added the following line under [General] in the fallout.ini file.

 

iPreloadSizeLimit=8388608000

This insures the game allocates 8GB of my 16GB of ram to the game and just like that I could walk into the problem areas. No fussing with load orders, no making merged mods with FO4Edit. That one line problem solved, remove the line problem comes back.

You could also try adding the line

bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=1

But I did not find that necessary.

 

Now if you use say the Mod Organizer you'll have a unique Fallout.ini under each profile so you'd need to add that line to all of them.
