Disapperaing shadows when moving/turning

Hey everyone, I think this thread is filled with different kinds of "shadow flickering" issues. I'd like to limit this thread to the original problem where all shadow completely turn OFF in the game when the character moves or when the camera (in 3rd person) moves. I'm posting my video again below so you can see exactly what I'm talking about:

Once I completely excluded ALL my game files from antivirus and changed my backups to run only once nightly (instead of continuously) I have not had a single shadow "flicker" problem. It has been weeks without a single problem.

I have had this issue for a long time and I have been scratching my head trying to figure out this weird glitch. It's so hard trying to pinpoint a problem when it's not consistent or make any sense what so ever.

After reading your post @Glanzer, I disabled the "..\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition" folder from syncing with OneDrive and the problem was gone.

My guess would be that OneDrive copy the .log, .ini and other files while the game is running, causing a conflict as they are being written to constantly.

Glad to finally figure this one out.

Hi guys!

I just experienced this on my game whilst adding mods to my Skyrim SE build. I had 2 profiles. The first was my "full game" build with all mods enabled The second was a "test" build with the same mods, but some were disabled. The shadows were glitching on my "full game" build, but not on my "test" build. So, I turned on all mods in my test build, and changed the load order to match my "full game" build. When running the game, my "test" build had no glitching, but my "full game" build had gitching shadows. I again compared both profiles and their load orders. They were exactly the same.

I then compared the "skyrim.ini" files for both profiles, and there was one single difference.......

....my "full game" build (with glitching shadows) contained the line, "bDisableShadowJumps=0".

I deleted the line. No more glitching shadows!

I concluded that the setting of bDisableShadowJumps=0 is the cause of my problem. It's value should either be 1, or the line should be deleted from skyrim.ini.

I tried almost every other fix and changing bDisableShadowJumups= from 0 to 1 fixed it and seems to be working correctly.

I tested additional lighting mods and an enb. After restarting both the game and my pc multiple times this is still working.

Thank you so much for the fix.

I'm having a similar problem. Shadows briefly vanishing when moving the mouse. If I hold the mouse over an area that causes shadows to vanish they will pop back in after a second or two.

I'm not running many mods, but I've tried disabling them all and letting Skyrim generate a fresh ini. Nothing helps.
