UnderwaterFrenetic
Okay, so this isn't meant to be juvenile or anything, but it's been stuck in my head every since I finished Blind Betrayal, and I gotta know: do synths, you know, have "bathroom needs?" I mean, apparently people can go years and years without knowing they're a synth since they eat and sleep and such, but during that time they must see people going to the toilet and must be aware that that's regular (pardon the pun). So does that mean they do it, too? And why would The Institute implement such a feature? I always thought they were going to use synths to replace the supposedly-impure Commonwealth populace, so why would they need to make them have potty needs? How is their food digested? If it comes out, in what form? If this has already been discussed in the game, could someone please show me where? I just gotta know! [Gosh, I thought I put this in the Spoilers section! Um, could somebody move this? :D ] Edited April 11, 2016 by UnderwaterFrenetic
Raycheetah
In the Institute, someone asks you hypothetically what it would be like to be free of human needs to eat or sleep, in reply to the question "What makes synths so superior to humans?" So, while those needs exist, it would appear that they can be overridden, IF the synth knows it can. Otherwise, if they feel hungry, they eat, and eating inevitably leads to excretion. The more you know... =^[.]~=
UnderwaterFrenetic
So they have optional poop mechanics? Rad. I did have that conversation with one of the doctors, but I didn't quite take it as an affirmation of bowel movements and the related, mostly because it wasn't outright stated, you know? Still, that leaves some things unanswered, like, "Can you use the stool to determine if someone is a synth?" and if so, how do their bodies process food? There are some things beyond our scope, I suppose. Regardless, thanks. :D
Raycheetah
So far as I know, the ONLY biological function which synths don't replicate is actual reproduction. However, infertility is likely to be a common issue in an irradiated wasteland, thus unremarkable. Otherwise, there appears to be no no test short of dissection (revealing the synth component) which can detect them. =^[.]^=
MagellanDiMarco
195Agreed with Raycheetah. IIRC, there is a female in the Covenant area that refers to the inability to distinguish a synth from a human without an autopsy. This tells me that, not only do synths ingest/digest/excrete, but they are most likely NOT anatomically incorrect. (I know CBBE doesn't differentiate) ;)

I see you post seemingly random numbers on every single post you make, and it has me highly curious at this point, lol. So, whats the deal!? It probably has to do with a top secret, ultra complex cipher! Quickly, someone fetch Dan Brown! No, but you guys are right-- the doctor lady did say that, which means I guess that synths poop. Consider this question answered, problem solved! Meanwhile, I love the concept of X6-88 just actively choosing not to go to the toilet. It would explain his face and general disposition, I guess. minngarm
If they have an intake for food, they need an exhaust for the waste from it.
DefectiveLife
Right, how else would synths be powered, if not by food? Nuclear power wouldn't be a good idea for an organic being, and things that absorb solar, sound, thermal, kinetic energy, etc. would require some kind of external apparatus, which would compromise a synth's ability to pass as human. UnderwaterFrenetic
You know, Superman never needed an apparatus, and dude was solar-powered. :P But yeah, synths and RVs got that much in common-- waste's gotta go somewhere, hey? I'm glad you guys took a more scientific route with this, as opposed to a "heehee, poo poo" route. Ya'll are good folk.
