Basil456
So I've had fallout for awhile, like two-three weeks after release, and shorty after my pc needed to be reset. I felt no need to reinstall fallout until yesterday morning when I purchased the two dlcs currently out. So up until then, that was $115 wasted to sit in my steam library. Anyway, I wanted to get some mods and found I had no Fallout4Custom.ini in the fallout 4 folder. Anyone know how I can possibly fix this or did Bethseda remove it as a way to say "well now you can't blame us if your game breaks from mods"? Royhr
Being missing for some reason is pretty common. Just create a text document and name it Fallout4Custom. Then change the extension from .txt to .ini. Then add whatever edits to the document that you require. Also this ini belongs in documents/mygames/fallout 4. Only reason I mentioned this is that you said Fallout 4 folder and just wanted to be sure that you didn't mean the Fallout 4 game folder in your Steam folder.... bben46
That file is automatically created the first time you start the game using the Steam launcher - If you don't start the first time using the Steam launcher it cannot create the file. Without that latest version from Steam, AND the ini, you are going to have problems playing the game or using mods because they rely on the ini AND the latest updates being there. Even if you bought a DVD from some legitimate source you still need to register your game through Steam to get the updates they left off of the DVD and allow it to create the custom ini that is based on the hardware it finds in your computer. Skyrim is a Steam exclusive game - that means you DO need steam or you will not be able to play properly. After you start the game the first time with Steam, make a save. Then you can use whatever launcher you prefer.
Basil456
Of course....I forgot to launch from steam (now I like an idiot). I will do this the next time I play now. Thank you. Edit: Nevermind, it has appeared :). Edited April 14, 2016 by Basil456
