Why are settelments so dirty?

Settlements are so dirty in order to allow for the creation of mods that perform a general cleanup thus subsequently improving frame rate, general game stability, and fame and fortune on the Bethesda.net console mod circuit. The concept of a mop and broom has not been hoarded away by the Brotherhood of Steel or the Enclave. Making the place liveable again is part of human nature, whether decorating vault walls with hand painted art or picking up the trash on the sidewalks.

I feel your pain, OP. I spent so many hours in FO4 just traveling to different settlements, cleaning everything using wonderful mods, only to have my beautiful, clean floors stained by the blood of raiders!

Jokes aside, I was confused as to why you can't get rid of LEAVES. There are just piles of leaves that you just can't rake, and it drove me bonkers for months, I was so baffled. I can literally uproot trees, remove massive mountains of debris, but a small pile of leaves are invincible? What's up with that?!

I have a 2 acre yard with 32 trees of various kind that are all over 20 years old. I can assure you, you can never get rid of them.

What I don't get is why people live in 2 wall shacks when there are houses all over the place that nobody lives in. At the very least all of the towns should be completely over populated before people resort to living in a stick shack. But, beyond that when the only resources you have are radiation filled scorched earth, you can't exact construct a Hilton in the middle of the wasteland and live it up.

Usually because raiders and stuff eating people in the houses. At least DC makes sense, big wall and well dug in area that you can easily fortify.

Yeah I get that, but I don't see how a 2 wall shanty out in the middle of the woods is any more safe than a house with 4 walls and (most of) a roof. Heck there are dozens of basements and underground shelters people could live in. If the lone wanderer can build a settlement, then a group like Preston and the gang could too, and they did in Quincy. Yeah they got overrun by Gunners, but they can rebuild. If you get enough people together you can also stand your ground. This is how places like Diamond City and Goodneighbor are built.

What you don't see you can't hit.
