bben46
Big PC making companies like Dell, HP and eMachines Do not make their own components, they buy them from 'OEM' manufacturers who do make them. For hard drives, manufacturers like Seagate and Hitachi are OEM. For Motherboards ASUS and MSI, for CPUs Intel and AMD. For RAM, Corsair and OCZ. The computer maker (Dell HP etc) may put their own label on some of these parts so you would think they made them. So Buying OEM is neither a good or bad thing, it is just that the parts are not re-branded with Dell or HP or eMachines logo.
Vagrant0
From a user standpoint, OEM generally just means that the component or software lacks any of that fancy packaging and are generally intended to be used or installed by the one who assembles the computer instead of the end-user.
