Am I an Oblivion fool?

Hi guys,

I'm getting back into gaming after a loooong hiatus (military deployments). Its good to be back on my sofa!

Next week for my birthday I'm getting

The 1st thing I want to do is replay Oblivion.

Last time I played it was 2011 and pure vanilla.

This time I have the game of the year with Knights of the Nine, Fighters Stronghold, etc, and I want to play it with the following mods:

Unique Landscapes Compilation - http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/19370/?

Landscape LOD generator tes4ll-v5 (maybe) - http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/40549/?

Francescos Creatures and Items - http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/40190/?

Level Slow - (don't know which one yet. The simplest one)

Now... I've never modded anything.

I plan on following Basic guide to optimizing/modding Oblivion - http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Basic_guide_to_optimizing/modding_Oblivion

and installing the recommended OBMM, Wrye Bash, BOSS, Tes4edit, OBSE for the above mods.

ANY CRITIQUE OR ADVICE is welcome.

Treat me like I'm an idiot. Recommend alternate mods if you see major conflicts.

I'm just really excited about this and want to get it right the first time.

THANKS!

:D :D :D

For starters, install each mod carefully individually, if on the page it says to use OBMM, use OBMM. If it says to use NMM, use NMM. Install each mod then at the end, create a Bashed Patch with Wrye Bash. Go from there.

Cheers Mate, I too am replaying Oblivion, not only with mods but with mods I am creating!

Hey Manus,

Thanks for the advice!

I will follow it while I install/pray.

I think its AWESOME that you are able to make mods.

My creativity computer wise is limited to graphic design. Back when I used to stick-fight I made a bunch of cool armor.

Here's me as a late Roman:

I can try to find some fighting pics if anyone is interested.

Mods such as your armor are welcome here.

You would have to do a little work in converting the flat design into a 3d representation that the game can use. Not my specialty, but ask and someone will get you started in the right direction.

back to topic...

Q1) If I'm using

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition Deluxe includes Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles expansions plus Fighter's Stronghold Expansion, Spell Tome Treasures, Vile Lair, Mehrune's Razor and much more.

do I need to install the Unofficial Patches?

If yes, which ones - or all?

Q2) I there an order I should install these mods?

Unique Landscapes Compilation
Landscape LOD generator tes4ll-v5 (maybe)
Better (open) Cities
Francescos Creatures and Items
Martigen Monster Mod
Deadly Reflex OMOD
Level Slow - (don't know which one yet. The simplest one)
My Custom BTmod
Drop Lit Torches in Combat
Faster Arrows
Quiet Feet MAX
Reznod Mannequins
THANKS!!

Unoffical Patches are not necessary, they are optional. It fixes bugs and issues, but most are small and not impact full, since the patches are big overall things, I tend to not use them as it might cause conflictions or problems and whatnot. For load order use the LOOT program. https://loot.github.io/ this will help with load orders and is usually 90% effective, meaning that some mods you might have to sort yourself using NMM, but it is usually mod specific

I would use ALL the unofficial patches.

Use BOSS not LOOT. BOSS works better for oblivion.

Use wrye bash as your mod manager its way more advanced and superior to OBMM. Altho for a couple select mods i do use OBMM as i cant install them otherwise.

As for mods if your looking for overhauls i really like oscuros with the weapon and creature addons.

Then to fix the TERRIBLE vanilla leveling system use either oblivion xp or realistic leveling. I use the latter but tried both and their both great.

Keep in mind this game is old and most guides are outdated and a lot of mods no longer supported and abandoned. Its challenging to mod because of that.

BUT for a basic guideline use this
