hoofhearted4
so i backed up my moms PC today on an external HDD. i want to upgrade her OS but i want to do a format install. if i format her PC and install the new OS, and then restore her PC with the HDD, what exactly gets restore or i should say what exactly was backed up? im talking down to the very last detail. would it be just like if i had "upgraded" her PC when i installed the new OS or does it only back up certain features. thanks all! (sorry i didnt realize i was viewing the PC section when i posted this. if a mod could please move it to the hardware/software section thatd b great) Edited July 1, 2011 by hoofhearted4
Vagrant0
Typically, all backups and system restores do is save registry and setting information as well as the files for the OS. Rescue disk backups are usually only for restoring an infected or corrupted system back to normal working order. Any files, such as documents or pictures usually need to be saved separately, and usually manually on an external location. Then again, I havn't used things like that in over 10 years, instead relying on my own ability to save anything I can't afford to lose in 2-3 places instead of hoping that some sort of disk imaging system will help me, so things may have improved a bit since then.
