Any reliable mobo is good. It's usually user preference that makes one better and another one inferior.

Be more specific on what you're using the 2500k for. Workstation, games, future proofing, 3d modelling/rendering, 2d imaging, audio production, web hosting, overclocking, etc.

games. other then that, just normal PC use (internet, writing essays and blah)

i dont plan on over clocking, but i want the option to be there. and of course i want a board i dont have to change 2 years down the road.

Then I'd recommend getting a p67 mobo with preferably two pci-e x16 slots for future sli/crossfire expandability, adequate number of usb 3.0 slots with internal front header capability, none of that bulls*** usb 3.0 pass through cables and decent OC capabilities.

Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, XFX are decent brands since I'd used them in the past and present with no problems.

im having trouble finding a board that has two pci-e x16 ports. it seems that the ones that have multiple have like a (x16) and a (x8) or a (x4) but not two (x16)

EDIT:

nvm i found ones with two (x16) slots, but were much to expensive, usually around $180+....im hoping to stay around $120 or less for my board.

so in the end, its these two boards im looking at:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157230&cm_re=p67-_-13-157-230-_-Product

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157249&cm_re=p67-_-13-157-249-_-Product

they end up being the same price (after rebate). i see some differences, the "cheaper" one has an e-sata port (idk what that is) and the "more expensive" has more pci-e slots. but ya. idk.

Id definately get one with 2 x16's, even if it costs more. Besides, $180 is around the average for a good board these days. $120 is cutting it fairly cheap.

Also, id stick with ASUSTeK for boards (Asus, if you didnt notice :D) as they are pretty much the best ones out there (Not including any EVGA Classified boards).

ya i was thinking about it, i decided i was gunna put the extra bit of money into it and get a better board.

this is one i picked out:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131703

i saw a z68 that looked good, but noticed it doesnt support turbo boost technology, which is like a huge cool thing with the sandy bridge CPUs!

but ya does that look like a good board?

sweetness, thanks a lot for your help!!!

in comparison, i noticed another user on the forum whos been helping me a lot, has this board listed in his build just wondering for comparisons sake (its cheaper with its rebate too!)

really thinking about going with that board, it combos with the i5-2500k and it saves me like $20 (with $90 in rebates)

although i am curious, if my other items arent made by MSI, it wont cause like conflicting issues will it?

monitor, PCI wireless adapter, DVD Drive, (ASUS)

GPU (EVGA)

PSU (Raidmax)

like should i be aiming for other MSI stuff or just go with the ASUS board for a but more money (and a little less rebate) or does it not matter? i mean when the prices are already over $1k, $20 less for an MSI board (with combo savings) and a tad more for rebate (like $10?) doesnt seem like much, and it really isnt, ill deal without it, but if i can save it, ill take it, but if from experience, do you guys think that trying to go with mostly one brand is worth it, and i should go with the ASUS board? or if not, then ill stick with my small amount of savings and stay with the MSI board...

lmk what you think guys. i appreciate the help :)
