Trying to troubleshoot missing textures

I know I'm missing a good number of textures or meshes in my game, because I get the dreaded red triangle, and get PipOS errors in PipBoy. How do I use FO3Edit to search for the missing items?

look in the edit scripts folder and see if you have the asset manager.pas file, if so, right click on the plugin / in question, and select apply script, at the top, there is a drop down menu, open it and find (asset manager.pas) and then you will be presents with some choices.

you can't do all of them at the same time.

IF you used NMM ? then it's possible the download was corrupted, lacking data.

IF you open the download manually with 7z program and extract it ,That may tell you if there is corruption in the file.

Other wise, the data is not loading or is not being allowed to load.

Before you can start to troubleshoot any problem, you need to get your load list in the correct order. I am guessing that you used LOOT to set the mess you have.

Read the mod description pages to find the correct order for the mods you have loaded.

One thing that you have ignored is that compatibility patches must load after the mods that are being patched.

I loaded everything into FO3Edit, and then applied the script to each item, one by one. Or should I have been loading each mod individually and then running script? One other thing I'm trying to puzzle out is I have a mod that changed all body parts in VATS to Spanish.

ok, lets start over here.

an object you see in the game has missing textures, a large red Exclamation mark.

Use the console command and mouse to Identify the red object, console ( ~ ) and left mouse click on the red item.

at the top of the screen, you will see a number, write the number down, then in the console type GBO...there will be a different umber because your running FOSE. this ID's the exact location of that object and tells us where and what is effecting your games software.

the load order is still wrong, no matter..the object seen (red Diamond) is data not being found or not in the right place.

1 good possibility is a mod was repackaged and the data is in a sub directory, put there by the process of installing the mod, how ever incorrectly it came about, the mesh files care not ,the data and directory files structure needs to be correct, or it will not process.

Please Use Fomm version ending in 21 or 1.9 from the forked version on NV site...don't care about which, NMM does not work right on some systems and others it can't be beat...so it's 50 - 50.

load order messes are never going to stop...so we are tired of beating this dead horse. Loot's will mess it up, because Loot is placing that street lights master in a defiantly wrong location regardless of any thing else, the data it contains supersedes any opinions about how it works....currently shown incorrect.

Fallout 3....very old, obsolete and holds no interests as the constant malfunctions of loot shows. NMM uses loot to sort...so that leaves it where it's at.

Do not depend on automatic fixes as there is no such thing.

your post indicates you expected the script to do something to the files? NO, it is a print out or a way to inspect just whats wrong for your EYE balls to view, it tells you whats missing by PATH...or whats not being seen.

so you got some things to learn, and get right. decide whats more important.

#1, load order is the most important thing as the last step before game launch.

#2. Verify you indeed have all the files in the right places.

this games format runs like this.

  1. meshes
  2. Sound
  3. textures

No sub data folders, there are voice directories in some.

I made the load order from your post along with the directory instruction in under .5 microseconds so to copy just those mods plugins just to verify the load order being wrong.

so fix the load order, use the description page on FWE's main web page, there is an example.

Okay. I'm using FOMM 0.13.21 (just started using it today). I understand that loot order is a pain, and that's secondary to fixing the red triangles. That said, now that I know how to determine what file they're from, that'll help a lot. It wasn't that I expected the script to do something, I just wasn't sure if I was supposed to load one individual mod in FO3edit (when you have the initial list of checked boxes), and then run the script, or if it was safe to load them all, then run the script on each one. I did that, first, and ran about 10-15 mods, and was missing tons of stuff.

I did use the description page on FWE's page to set my 2nd mod order, and went through readmes and webpages on the rest, so if it's still wrong, I'm not entirely certain how. I'll start texture-hunting as I play now -- some of the stuff was in areas long ago in my game.

Thank you for the help, by the way, it's very much appreciated.

I'm apparently missing something -- what do I do once I have the two hex codes for the items? Search for them in FO3Edit?
