Doing a pre-production of a RPG I'm making.

My new company name is RealityNext, and like the name suggests, I want this game to be a RPG that has absolutely no limits. And because of that, I need your ideas! Here's a few I have planned already...

1. Blood / Gore

2. Nudity ~ when nude, NPC's will not just hate you, but be hostile towards you.

3. Banking

4. Buy house

5. Buy mounted animals

6. Prostitutes ~ become one yourself

7. Good economy - aka can't buy a full set at with 200 gold.

8. Can't multi-class. ~ This was horribly done in Morrowind making every player a

power character while NPC's roleplayed only one class for variety.

9. Chidren

10. Must eat food / bathe / must drink

11. Start as a child, live to an adult.

12. Politics

13. 200 skills

That's all I can think of at the moment. The idea is to make this the most contraversial RPG ever. Why? It sells. Plus the way virtual world games are going nowadays, the players want more realism til it meets what we can relate to. I'm reading a book by the creator of the first virtual world game ever, and his ideas are so inspiring to what we can create nowadays. Please don't confuse this game with Morrowind. This will be entirely made with VC++ and Direct X.

Let the ideas roll.

1) Find money. Help doesn't come free, and I doubt you'll find anyone who's both good at their job and willing to accept a promise of future pay.

2. Nudity

6. Prostitutes ~ become one yourself

9. Chidren

2) Say goodbye to your profits. You're not only going to be getting an adults only rating but you won't be able to sell it at all in some countries. (children can get hurt = instant ban).

3) Say goodbye to your time. This is your new job and you don't get paid until you start selling. Better hope you can live for a few years off your bank account/family.

4) Pray. If you're not religious, pick a few religions and pray. Because the odds are against you. Especially if you're writing your own game engine.

5) If you can't find expert help/money to pay for it, call Satan and start negotiations for your soul.

6) ADD GOOD GAMEPLAY! Nobody is going to care about the controversy when the reviews all give it 1/10 ratings. You might sell a few copies based on controversy alone, but forget about making a profit off of it.

Of course I like Morrowind. But if your in the gaming business, you realize that ideas are made from games. They expand. You think critically on the game's faults and how you can better them in your own. All games do this. A while ago, Everquest was talking about how they learned from other games, and they were going to expand on that. It's just how the industry works. But, what I'm glad to say is Bethesda's products truely have inspired me, and it's going to help great games to come too :)

ADD GOOD GAMEPLAY

The world will not care about your controversy when you make a 1/10 game with boring quests, bad graphics, etc. A day after you release the game, its going to be reviewed and those reviews spread around online. And anyone who reads that all you did is put together some controversial subjects into a pointless mess isn't going to give your game a second look.

Drop the whole controversy issue and worry about the quality of the game. That is your first priority.

Could you say a bit more about the game type? Is it mostly based on fighting, role-playing, or is it more like contoling a charaters life (such as the sims). If it has a good mixture than that would be interesting. The limitless part kind of worries me though. I've played a few games that were said to be limitless and found out that the games had no plot. While this was somewhat interesting to me, I think many people easily get bored without someone giving them goals to work towards.

Yeah, that's true. The game will be an RPG like Morrowind. Although Morrowind has good graphics and detail, it lacked features, which is where we include "Gameplay." I believe a good roleplaying game consists heavily on gameplay. It needs a good balance of features and graphics, or it's just rather an art display before your eyes. I want the player to truely roleplay aka doing what he wants to do.. instead of being limited to what he can do. The contraversy part was not the key of the game, but rather it's talking about realism that tons of rpg games lack. The more real it is, you're bound to hear people screaming about it. Aka Dungeons and Dragons (how it's such a cult satanic game where if you play it your going to hell), and Grand Theft Auto 3 (someone saying my kids played this and decided to rampage our town, lets sue). I think the more feared people are with games, the better. But that's just me. It adds better freedom, and most definitely you'll see more games coming out that are the top 10 feared games. Daggerfall especially was in that top 10 list at its time. I still wonder how hehe.

I'm also happy to say out of all the games I've played, they've all been RPG's. I know what made them great, and what lacked. A few that I played are: Wizards and Warriors, Dungeons & Dragons, Daggerfall, Morrowind, (can't wait for Fable), Everquest, and more. I can write a whole book about each game. But I'll save that for college and essays.

What I've also noticed, most RPG's are entirely combat-based. I'll be focusing on how the player can have a life outside of questing and fighting. Of course it's a ton of scripting, but it's easier than you think. I'll write up some code and show you what I'm talking about. Just hold on for a little.

I have to say I agree with Peregrine. Just putting in child prostitution for controversial reasons won't sell it except to a few weirdos. What sells a game is a combination of the look and feel, the plot line, the variety of it's quests etc. Get a good story, good graphics, good design etc and the game will pay for itself. Make a shoddy game, controversial or not, and it'll bomb!
