Doors Sticking / Flames Not Animating / Graphical Issues

I'm about 80 hours in to my first playthrough of Oblivion and I'm absolutely loving it! However I am having increasing problems with things not animating properly which appears to be slowly but surely getting worse. Fire no longer is animated - it just stays static. Doors and levers also no longer animate with the effect that you can't actually go through them (doors not levers - the levers just don't open what they're supposed to)!!! No matter how many times I click on them nothing happens. Also when I get hit by a spell I tend to look as though I have been continually hit. The spell affects such as the bubbles and red / green effects stay on my HUD near constantly and quite often I can't see anything because of it :( Collecting sigil stones is a pain because I can't just click on them. I have to click on them, then go round behind them and jump over one corner of them to get the animation to continue and to collect the stone. If I jump over too near the middle I'm immediately killed.......loads of things like this.

Funnily enough though the way I have found today to get the doors to open is to click on them. Then keep pressing F5 for quicksave and they will very slowly open. Each time I press quicksave they open another inch! This also works to get rid of the spell effects on the screen.

As I said it has been getting worse and worse. It started off with the occasional door sticking and it could be fixed by exiting the fort / dungeon, waiting a few seconds and then re-entering to find the door had magically opened. A bit of a pain if you had to traipse through an entire dungeon or two to get to the outside and then go back again but it wasn't too bad. Now it's every door / gate / lever that doesn't involve transitioning a level. Level transitions work fine as, I assume, no animation of any of the door is required.

Also after just exiting the last dungeon where I had to collect a suit of armour Tiber Septum (or something similar) for Martin I found on exiting the dungeon and quick travelling to Cloud Top that the braziers with fire in were animating again! However from experience upon entering anywhere else they will all stop! Confimed - next dungeon entered they were no longer animating.

I'm on the Steam Deluxe PC version which I've patched with all the unofficial patches for the main game and the dlc's. I'm using OBSE, OBMM & BOSS. I'm pretty light on mods, just using gfx enhancers such as Qarls Texture Pack, Better Cities, IWR - revised optimised, Natural weather / habitat / water, Darnified UI, Unique Landscapes compilation, Younger hotter npc's and that's pretty much it. All installed without any issues by following the readme instructions. I don't really understand exactly how they work but I can follow instructions ok!!! ;)

I've tried different gfx settings, disabling all mods, disabling and then re-enabling all of them again. I've verified the game cache in Steam. Defragged the hard drive. I keep all the drivers up to date anyway but I don't think it is an issue with drivers or anything as the game was running flawlessly for the first 40-50 hours or so.

I'm running it on an Intel 980x @ 4.2ghz, 6gb of Ram, 2 x GTX 480's, Asus Rampage III Extreme mobo. Again I don't think this is an issue as it was running fine a couple of weeks ago and I haven't changed anything driver wise or added any new mods.

At a bit of a loss really as whilst it hasn't prevented me from playing the game it is managing to take a lot of the enjoyment out of it.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. If you require any further information let me know and I'll provide it to the best of my ability!

That sounds a LOT like the animation bug, but, seeing it at 80 hours is extremely premature..... There are a bunch of fixes out there for it, Just search for "animation bug" or "a-bomb" and it should come up with a couple tools to fix it. Wrye Bash also has a fix for it.

Thanks Hey You - yep on the face of it it appears like a classic a-bomb issue. I'll just have a read of how to fix it and hopefully give one of them a go. Would just installing Wyre Bash fix it automatically or is there more to it than that?

once you have wrye bash up, running, and happy.... fire it up, go to the saves tab, right click on your save game, and it should be in the context menu that comes up. Something to the tune of "A-bomb fix", or some such. There are also tools just for that purpose here on Nexus.

Oh wow - looked up animation fixer on tesnexus and that totally fixed it. Albeit I understand it will keep happening but even so as long as I can keep using this I should be good. Ok - possibly could have done that before posting here but didn't realise at all it was such a big issue so didn't think there would be a program to fix it!

Have a rep / kudos from me.

Usually expect replies the next day or so - to have fixed it in 15 minutes is awesome!

Thanks again ;)
