GarglingGlass
I get attacked by vampires often while screwing around in Whiterun at night, as I'm sure you do too. I had to walk up a lengthy, winding path to get to the Whiterun gates, laden with guards, before being questioned at the doors. But every single night a slew of vampires and their slaves waltz up to The Drunken Huntsman? Just an observation but any theories?
TheVampireDante
1. Look human enough to pass through the gate without suspicion.2. Bribe/charm/hypnotize the guard into letting them through.3. Jump/climb over the wall.
DavidJCobb
They attack at night, when visibility is poor and their faces aren't as visible. They wear vampire armor, but no one ever recognizes it as such when it's worn by you or anyone else. The gate path really just helps with bandits, the poor, and Khajiit, all of whom would make an obvious approach.
AraFox
If I was a vamp, I'd use my mad invisibility skills to wait by the gate and then slip in whenever the gates opened.
GarglingGlass
Good enough answers I suppose lol. But the vampires all seem so lesser in this game. If a guard can beat the s*** out of me, then why are they so weak to not be vigilant? With the heightened security because of vampire attacks, and Dawnguard's random presence... once... Vigilants of Stendarr nowhere to be found but wondering the countryside. And I suppose those points go along with every other major city in Skyrim too. Also, if they're sneaking in so stealthily, why not go to the Drunken Huntsman or Bannered Mare before trying a full on slaughter? Instead they do it surrounded by guards at the guard base and outside of the biggest weapon's dealer in all of Skyrim. Signette
Hmm, strange... I can take like 10 guards and brutally murder without breaking a sweat. Vampires are much stronger for me. On OP:Pretty much what other said + if you're really bothered by their attacks, finish Dawnguard main quest as soon as possible, attacks will completely stop. Timing is Everything. It'll let you decide at what level you want the vamp attacks to start. You can even turn them off entirely if you want. GarglingGlass
Like I said, it's just an observation. I'm not bothered by anything, and I kill everything. But if I were the vampires, I don't see why a full frontal assault was their brightest idea.
woodsman30
Always felt the Dawnguard DLC was a little too focused or rushed if you will . It seems when it starts you have to do the entire quest line or many NPC will be killed due to attacks at every turn in the game. That an like it or not Serana is with you most of the time hence you do the quest or have her casting spells and raising the dead again at every turn  . There are times when you can dismiss her but it seems she will wander Skyrim and only through console commands can you find her she can be very buggy. Rethrain
Yeah, Serana was always a tricky character to...customize, at least according to follower mods. And yeah, a frontal assault is pretty dumb, though all of their missions and radiant quests actually involve stealth. So I suppose it was a lazy way of introducing the questline DLC. Also, I've had it happen that the Dawnguard attacked me in broad daylight in a town with no walls, and then get killed by the guards.
