Making Companions Compatible with SI and in Oblivion Gates

Are there any articles on this, or can someone let me know if you need to do anything special to make companions work in SI and inside oblivion gates?

 

Edit: I mean this from a modding from scratch pov and not trying to make another mod work this way. I know there are problems with companions resetting when you close a gate. Last I heard the in-game work around is to simply send your companion home before closing it. Is there a modding work around to this?

 

Also is there any issue with using a companion in SI unless some specific modding method is applied?
