Shading Problems

Heya Guys,

so i bought Oblivion via Steam recently and wondered why the graphics (the hair is what makes me angry, grrr) looked so crappy on my pc :<

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/3906/crappyt.png

I mean look at it.

My System:

Win7 (64bit)

Intel Core i5-2500k @ 3,3 ghz

8gb Ram

Geforce GTX 560 Ti (newest Driver(275.33) and Dx11 installed) - supports shadermodel 5.0 (well anything above 2.0 for oblivion would be senseless i guess )

Oblivion has the newest Patch.

--> Thats why i downloaded several Patches (unofficial oblivion patches),obse and obge to fix that problem..well nothing worked. (unofficial shivering isles patch/oblivion patch/oblivion graphics extender/Custom Races/Hgec Body/that male body replacer thing/obse/obge)

When i checked my Renderinfo.txt it had this written on it: Shader Package : 2,

after installing obge it turned into 4, but its still not satisfying.

i guess its a Problem with Oblivion not detecting my videocard lol. (-> shading problem)

I tried renaming the shaderpackage019.sdp into shaderpackage002.sdp/shaderpackage004.spd too, but that didnt work that well either. (Sometimes its even worse, the Textures are transparent and the only thing i can see are the outlines, the (crappy) hair, teeths and eyes..im s*** scared of that!)

Even the Oblivion.ini couldnt help out, there was nothing like bAllow30Shaders=0 there lol. (Got the idea from http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/274865-how-to-fix-severe-performance-issues-with-newer-video-cards/page__p__2494012__hl__shading__fromsearch__1#entry2494012)

Well, even disabling everything and starting the game with the lowest graphics does nothing. (Lie!, it looks worse)

How it looks like:

AND on top of that there is one more thing which is even more annoying, the Game crashes everytime i exit (i bet there is already a solution for that, but i had no time to search for it ) [/drama]

I'm getting desperate, i never had those Problems when i bought the Retail Version few Years ago, for my old Pc >.<

I hope someone/something could help me, i havent found something usefull for my Problem yet..and im going to sleep now. And excusez moi for my -bad- english.

Greetings

1. The hair is fine. It's not bugged. It just sucks by default, period. Custom races and hair (or using beast races) can fix that. Depending on how [bOOMING VOICE RAAAAAAH *viking metal solo and lightning strikes*]MANLY AND SECURE[/booming voice] you are, you may be disappointed, as most of the custom races are female/metro/involve nudity/final fantasy/all of the above. If it's any consolation, your character's vanilla ugly mug and face (which won't be so ugly if you're a non-human race, really) will usually be covered up by a helmet.

2. If the newer shaders don't work, switch back to the old ones (may have to reinstall if you deleted the old ones).

3. The crash on exit problem is widely acknowledged - if it's really annoying, download Fast Exit (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22410). Note that it requires Oblivion Script Extender.

4. IMPORTANT: If you use OBGE, disable Anti-Aliasing. That's what's causing the transparency...weirdness. Don't worry, OBGE has its own variants of AA to compensate for the incompatibility. (I bolded it because I've helped someone else who had even more severe problems but this is what was causing all of the issues).

5. Setting up OBGE can cause serious headaches. You might notice that the graphics look completely F'd up after installing it - you have to configure it. A lot. However, it's worth it (although a few bugs [mostly related to Godrays.fx] can get annoying). For now, move the obge.dll (will probably be obgev2.dll or obgev3.dll depending on your version) out of the folder it's in to disable it until you've fixed what's wrong.

6. Your system is far more than is needed to run Oblivion, but Oblivion sometimes decides that it spits upon your "puny" high-tech fancy pants gaming computer and runs slow for no good reason at all. This is most notable for multicore processors - Oblivion has little to no multicore support, so having one powerful core (3.0 ghz+) is actually better. Also, Oblivion likes to make your graphics card run on a treadmill from Hades, to put it lightly. RAM shouldn't be an issue, but you might want to look up the "4gb fix" since you have 8gb - Oblivion will, by default, only use up to approximately 2gb (depends on system) and then crash if it caps that.

7. Since you're on Windows 7, it might be a good idea to install Oblivion outside of the Program Files folder due to the built-in security of Windows causing some major issues (said security can be disabled but is a bad idea unless you are very confident about your anti-virus and firewall).

1. well it looks so everywhere, not just the hair (i tried several mods too btw, synx, high imperial, doll and rens beauty thing, they still look stupid), its just the worse on human races lol. my favourite race(khajiit) looks the same..

And i dont really care about the Gender etc, it would be just nice if it looks better again. (as i said my old computer with intel pentium 4 and a geforce 6800gs had better graphics >.<)

2. done, it has not changed anything at all

3. ah thank you ;D

4. you were right, aa made those..weird textures.

5.i give it a try, thanks

6. found the 4gb patch and installed it, but it seems like its still the same performance etc

7.ill test that later.

thanks ;D

The screenshot you provided looks perfectly normal. If you could provide some more screenshots that would be useful. Also, the RAM thing only comes into play if you use many, many mods or have many, many NPCs near you, as in so many you can only achieve it via mods or repeatedly spawning people.

well i have 2 more problems, the first one is quite obvious lol

the second one: i usually have like 80+ fps when im not outside, but sometimes it turns into 1 fps and stays there for a long long time..

i cant provide more pictures at the moment (the custom races/hairs look the same like the normal races, so pixelated..you know what i mean?), because im reinstalling oblivion right now.. >.<

can someone provide me with an order how to install all those patches?, i would just start with the uops, continue with obse, obge, body replacers and end it with the custom race fix.

or is there even a way to trick oblivion that i have an older video card?

greetings

Oblivion can use up to shader package 3, and the tricks you tried should have done something....... Convincing Oblivion you have an older card that it actually recognizes won't do you any good at all.

What screen resolution are you playing at? Is your texture size (in the ingame video options) set to large?

well, i usually play 1440x900 fullscreen or 1024x768 / 1366x768 windowed.

and yes, it was the first thing i tried lol.

And i thought i could trick oblivion into me having the best videocard it would recognize and thus chosing the best graphics options. (with shader package 3.0 >.<)

greetings

Oblivion won't default to SM3.0 no matter what vid card it thinks you have. You have to make the changes in order for it to work.

Something else you might try is, playing the game full-screen, at the same resolution as your desktop.
