You could ask Arwen to help you since he did realism tweeks

Can he script?

I believe Arwen is very capable of scripting. I used the Arwens realism mods in Fo3 they were done pretty well.

Well, I've never heard of him so I didn't know. I've just asked him, haven't heard back yet.

Well in Fo3, it added being knocked unconscious from explosions and such.. honestly that's the biggest thing I remember from it (But it knocked me unconscious far too much so I turned it off) I also remember it required you to use triage... it had *Doctors Bags* I think, which is one of the ideas they put into NV... theres more but I don't remember. You're reading some strongly exaggerated reports.

1. Multiple shots is a requirement to kill someone in almost every circumstance, and that can take as long as twenty minutes.

2. Single shot lethality is not a single shot stop. I've watched a girl die after being shot through the heart with a pistol. It took nearly ten minutes, and damned if a shot anywhere else is going to kill you faster than one through the heart.

3. Excuse me, but I've been shot in the head. Entry near the right temple, exit behind the left ear. As you can clearly tell, I'm not dead.

Well I did say there was room for error. And about the headshot thing, I didn't say it was one shot kill, I just said that in most cases headshots that kill happened from being shot in certain areas of the brain, such as when someone shoots you right between the eyes, which most of the time will hit the spinal cord stopping the messages your body receives from the brain.

About multiple shots, I never said that it wasn't the case.

-Please don't take this offensively and don't think you've offended me in any way,

I'd also say a there's good percentage of people who have been shot in the head, and did not survive, and that we wouldn't be exposed to their stories as much as someone who had survived. And I would assume, (assume having the emphasis here) that while a shot to the head may not be the most immediately lethal, it would most likely be the most immediately traumatizing (aside from perhaps having a limb suddenly removed), I would assume again that shock alone would account for a great many deaths in these circumstances, and it seems hard to believe that anyone would be functioning at the same fighting capacity after being shot in the head that they were capable of prior to (in the moment I mean). If not killing a person with such a shot (and with certain calibers such a shot would more than likely be fatal) without assistance and immediate attention, it would in most cases be effectively "removing" them from battle. (See the problem here is that people react differently, so perhaps some variations in ai to account for the different kind of reaction people would immediately have after receiving a fatal (or near fatal) wound needs a look over)

TBH what would be great to see is as you mentioned, NPCs that are injured "bleed out" as opposed to falling over dead, even if it meant they are laid prone, unable to move, but still able to shoot when severely crippled (or used healing or drugs to try to escape or kill).. Again I can't be 100% on this but the concept of walking on a one recently broken leg, almost alludes me, let alone hobbling around on two broken legs, but there really needs to be some new crawling or prone animations for this to ever happen.

As for most people dying in their sleep, I'm aware of that, in this society. But i'd say in the setting of the post apocalyptic wasteland that is fallout, "most" people would be dying from an array of other problems. I'm not saying that people still wouldn't die in their sleep, I'm saying that it seems unlikely that I would literally wait myself to death. Having a pop up screen interrupt waiting and sleeping times at certain levels of hunger or thirst of simply not allowing a PC to rest when starving or bleeding IMO would be better. Then you could slip in certain effects that don't warn before sleep (such as concussion or infection) that actually cause the player to die.. For realism sake anyway.

And lets not forget that the level of medical treatment in the wasteland would not be the same as say standards today.

Same as everywhere else, but most people are shot repeatedly. We're talking about one shot.

A gunshot to the head is like any other head injury. The first thing that happens is your vision fuzzes out for a few minutes, and that means you're not fighting back for a little while. Once your vision is back, the effects depend on where you are shot and even with that they're pretty random. You might have shakes, you might not be able to think clearly, you might not be able to conjugate properly, who really knows?

If not killing a person with such a shot (and with certain calibers such a shot would more than likely be fatal)

Same as anywhere else.

Yeah. For all of two minutes, then their vision comes back. Sure, they're impaired, but they can still fight. The only thing you can really do to make sure somebody goes down and stays down in to inflict so much damage they can't stand, and a gun isn't much good for that. Settle for "they'll be dead in a minute" or "they'll never reach me." In both cases, the head is not the place to shoot. Most of the damage there is contusions, from the bullet's shockwave. Contusions kill through blood loss, but they bleed very slowly. That's important, because it means the person will be operational longer than if you shot them somewhere you could get a fast bleed, like the heart of a major blood vessel.

Keep in mind though, I'm the only person I know who's been shot in the head, and seeing as I didn't die, I can't tell you how long it takes. All I know is how slow concussive injuries bleed, and that ballistic head trauma is mostly concussive.

(See the problem here is that people react differently, so perhaps some variations in ai to account for the different kind of reaction people would immediately have after receiving a fatal (or near fatal) wound needs a look over)

Taking that into account already. I've got a random chance set up for any injury to the head to cause a number of SPECIAL penalties, and a few guaranteed penalties. It might just cause a drop in perception and luck, it'll probably penalize charisma and intelligence, and it could easily reduce strength and agility.

TBH what would be great to see is as you mentioned, NPCs that are injured "bleed out" as opposed to falling over dead, even if it meant they are laid prone, unable to move, but still able to shoot when severely crippled (or used healing or drugs to try to escape or kill).. I've got it so one broken leg prevents you from crouching or jumping and takes speed down to 50%. Two prevents running and reduces it to 25%. Both also reduce agility by 5 points. End result will be painfully slow movement and likely helplessness in battle, and it makes the odds of hobbling back to a doctor rather slim. While you bleed to death.

As for most people dying in their sleep, I'm aware of that, in this society. But i'd say in the setting of the post apocalyptic wasteland that is fallout, "most" people would be dying from an array of other problems.

Actually, many who survive the initial blood loss will then die of shock in their sleep. Don't sleep while your health is low, it's not going to do anything good. Get some health back first.

You cannot sleep, fast travel or wait while taking health damage. Between the health damage, I would imagine it's possible. Just don't do it.

Then you could slip in certain effects that don't warn before sleep (such as concussion or infection) that actually cause the player to die.. For realism sake anyway.

I'll think about it.

And lets not forget that the level of medical treatment in the wasteland would not be the same as say standards today.

Of course not. But that's to be expected.

Great responses. GL getting this out and kudos for even attempting it.

Pity there won't be any room for "prone" type animations, we can't have it all though :D

EDIT; i remember someone else was talking about realistic hydration, starvation and sleep deprivation effects and penalties, I.E. Never really being able to die from sleep deprivation and instead falling unconscious (which could in turn get you killed) for a couple of hours.

And when you say lose vision. It's easy to just have a visual effect on the PC to account, but is it possible to temporarily "blind" npcs from shooting? (i guess you could just have them go into "flee" mode, but not have them move very far or fast).. Anyway I hope so.

If somebody could make it, I would gladly and whole-heartedly incorperate it. (Really, what else could you do with two broken legs?)
