Pixel Shaders

Just for fun, I ran a quick test - taking identical shots with and without the Pixel Shaders running on my video card.

The results were pretty startling.

Both shots were taken at 1PM (game time) while standing on one of the bridges in Seyda Neen.

... Pixel Shaders, yes:

... Pixel Shaders, no:

Yeah, the difference is incredible, isnt it?

When i first got my new computer, i went from GeForce2 MX to GeforceFX mid-range. I was literally blown away by the difference, but its mainly to water though; textures seem to be the same. The animation is smoother though, but that might be to do with the processor functions.

BTW:Big pics=death to 56k.

I belive the afore mentioned pearl is indeed the crosshair, the image has just been re-sized and so the crosshair was distored into a nice white dot, also 6fps? oh my god that is horrible. I only get less then 30fps when there are ALOT of light sources in a small area, I put 37 candels in cassius house once I wanted to make a shirne to his departure oh my that was a bad idea. it was like moving in syrup.

Yeah, sorry about the image size... I was working with Photo Editor at first. The images looked a lot smaller on-screen and I forgot to resize them before uploading...

EDIT: (( Images resized to better accomodate our 56k Bretheren... ))

And no, that's no pearl you see in the water, that's actually because of a plug-in that I use that changes the in-game "crosshair" into the far more more subtle dot you see in the screenshots.

As for the frame rate comment... Interesting! Too be honest with you, had you not mentioned it, I never would have noticed that. I might do some quick checking to see if enabling the shaders has any significant effect on my frame rates. But yes, my 'rates absolutely suck-wind out of doors in Seyda Neen, Balmora and Peligrad. Normally I'm doing a bit better than that, but it's also why I've got my eye on a couple new motherboard/cpu combos at my local 'puter shop. Just don't tell my wife.

w00t. My 500th... and in a thread I started. How... arrogant... of me to notice.

Not to impede on your thread, but the second I started using pixel shaders, my load times have dropped to abysmal, and I'm still looking for a solution (OTHER THAN TURNING OFF PIXEL SHADING <_<)

But I didn't notice that big of a difference in the way Morrowind looked, except when I was looking at water. But aside from that, the Xbox version looks a bit better than the PC (NOTE: not saying I like the Xbox or anything)

Valdir has got it spot on - the only major difference in the graphics with pixel shaders on is the water. Granted, its lovely looking water, but unless you send all of your time scuba-diving for wrecks (something which i have yet to do - no money for CE Water-Breathing <_< ) then its no big change.
