Would appreciate some help finding certain kinds of mods

Well I finally just decided to stop being a chicken and tried to install the mods and put them in the right load order. I didn't expect to get it working right, but I just wanted to try something since I had already sort of created a mess.

Well...looks like I created a bigger mess. Fallout 3 won't even start. It boots up in windowed form, first pretty small, then almost full screen, then just closes.

So how do I clean this up? I've got no idea where to start.

Well first it would help what mod or mods did you install? What you need to do is install one mod at a time til you get comfortable with opening the correct folders etc. Start with simple mods, install it, start the game up, verify the mod is working etc.

Too start off a game, I would always recommend using FWE - Fallout Wanderer's Edition.

Its an overhaul mod which adds features and tweaks some. For example; a sprint feature, bullet time (matrix style) feature, drunkenness and drug visuals etcetera. It even offers an alternate start, rather than going through Vault 101. It tells you that your birth is you having a dream then goes off into another epic starting, but I wont spoil that for you.

Then theres something like DarNified UI for FO3. It makes the aesthetic of the menus so much better. You dont feel crammed full of text when looking at your game. Smaller fonts, better menus etc.

Then I'd recommend getting something like Fellout/URWL, or both, to lift that horrible green tint from Fallout and make it look real.

You've already got Project Beauty, it would seem, because somebody else suggested it.

Enjoy your game

Heh, I never made a merged patch guys. That's probably the problem. I'll do that, but I'm still figuring out what mods I will and won't use. I ended up changing my mind on Fellout and Weapon Mod Kits, and just downloaded RH Ironsights and Fallout Re-Animated.

Right now I have NMC's texture pack and Fallout 3 Enhanced Shaders...can you guys recommend any other mods like those that improve the graphics for the entire game? I've got a pretty beefy video card that I want to take advantage of.

God dammit. I think I got the main mods working, but I was going to finish with the Enhanced Shaders mod...except the instructions in the read me are horrible, and I probably completely botched it. Now when I try to start the game it tells me that d3xd9_40.dll is gone.

Simply reinstall DX9.

Oh my God. It's a conspiracy. I'm looking for Microsoft's latest version of DirectX to update to...but I forgot that for SOME reason, any site that uses Windows Live will not load for me. Xbox.com, whatever...if it has a Windows Live log in page, it doesn't load.

Oh well, looks like it's a problem with Google Chrome. Got an update with Firefox. Game starts now...and now I'm curious...I left the d3d9 file from the Enhanced Shaders mod in there...and when I started the game it had info for that mod up in the left corner, similar to how Darn UI shows up in the bottom right corner...but does that mean it's working 100% correctly? I deleted every other file related to that mod before installing the DirectX update....
