phoneyLogic
Hi folks, I'd like to implement a custom menu to FO3 and FNV.Sadly I have no clue about xml, but I figure I could learn some basics. The problem is, where to start? Is there an editor which is able to give a preview of the code?Where can i find a good documentation? Cheers Edited July 10, 2011 by tortured Tomato
Pronam
I wouldn't know any good tutorials that apply to the game itself, but it's good to know what the basics of XML are anyway. It's more focussed on websites, but the essence is the same and will just apply on fallout as well. There's only one mod I know that applied it and that's this one. Edited July 10, 2011 by Pronam

There are some gems scattered here...
schlangster
Another good reference would be The Mod Configuration Menu for a custom pause menu. You can also take a look at Project Nevada, it implements a Custom Menu as well. From what I could tell, the Fo3 companion wheel uses our method of hijacking the tutorial menu to add new interfaces (or maybe he just had the same idea independently). phoneyLogic
Thanks, I'll have a closer look to them as well. :) Is it possible to add a menu without hijacking an existing one? What editor would you recommend? Edited July 11, 2011 by tortured Tomato

But the tutorial menu is pretty well suited for that, cause the existing tutorial menu can be hidden easily, it already has a keyboard shortcut for exit (E), and its not used that often. And I'm using Notepad++.
phoneyLogic
Alright, I see, these xml menus seems to be hardcoded. The tutorial menu should be perfect.
