Casual Difficulty

Combat. Combat in Dragon Age Origins is tedious, strenous and focused. These are evil to me, I'm a real time player, so I find it difficult to fight in DAO because I really prefer to play without pausing and issuing orders and assigning tactics and whatever. I just want to play the damn game relaxed and easy, clicking enemies and mashing buttons on the keyboard. Sadly, I can't.

I haven't actaully tried modding for DAO yet, and I don't know if it's possible to create extra difficulty settings. If so, then great. If not, then perhaps just lowering the difficulty further on the easy setting.

Thanks.

Billyro.

I haven't really seen a mod that makes an "easier than casual" setting. There are a couple of ways you can play it more real time..

#1 Set up the tactics in your companions so that they do what you want and fight how you want without you having to issue orders. That is the "purist" method.

#2 Download some of the uber armor and weapons found here on the Nexus. Having super armor or weapons increases YOUR difficulty to THEM. It makes you harder to hit, their hits do little or no damage most of the time, and you can take out even high level enemies quickly and easily. Equipping your party with uber items too makes it even easier. This is another good way to play the game if you are a "real time" type player or a player that just kinda wants to experience the story with the fights being inconsequential.

Something about the "R" attack in DA2 ...an' it's about the only thing I like about DA2, So what i do in DAO is "runscript addtalent 4029" =Ranger... then ya get a wolf, and if ya set ya tactics "nicely" you take control of wolf and watch the fun!. And there is no need to pause the game so often....yes i too find it bloody annoying that ya can't actually target an enemy without pausing the game.

Also i use "utility sack" =good for numerous reasons. And the winter forge "TWF" it fills in the gaps what utility sack misses....if you want to create some uber god slaying gear...lol....And if ya wanna go the full hog "up the stats/attributes" with the toolset of your main char early in the game ..otherwise it won't load if ya save file is too large....OH nearly forgot "All Spells Can Learn"= gives nearly all spells/talents to all.....great if ya want fireworks etc!.

Yep I like playin' for the story dialogue/varied endings etc...if i wanna play combat strategy ...well there's lots of games for that like D2 M&B and numerous FPS's......obviously i got nothing against having combat in DAO/DA2 ....it's a necessary part of the story but it's also nice to play a game as if it were a "movie" where ya can change the ending to suit ya mood.TC.

Another option is to download the Advanced Tactics Mod. with this installed it has a 'posessed' function (in your skills menu) which will make your characters continue to follow their tactics even when you are controlling them. Then all you have to do is get your tactics set up well and 'butt-in' when you want to something special. It also adds at least 1 handy addition to your tactics which is 'Ally: Dead - Use: Revival'

...Or you can just make your characters strong enough to one-hit kill everything. Use http://dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=347 to edit your stats. When I tried it I could pump up my strength above 500 (didn't try to find some upper limit, assuming that there is one). Darkspawn will fall as you breath on them.

Will have to admit that I've used this in my later playthoughts. It's funny, at the start I set it on Nightmare, but every time its time to go to the deep roads I always get tired of it along the way and use the cheat above...
