Weird sound issues

After reinstalling oblivion, I noticed certain in game sounds weren't working. Weapon/spell sounds and small talk among NPCs still work. But sounds like equipping items in my inventory, lockpicking, and actual conversations with NPCs do not seem to work. Any ideas?

When you re-installed did you delete your oblivion.ini file (NOT oblivion_default.ini that is located in your Oblivion folder but the one that is located in My Documents along with your save files)?

What kind of sound card do you have, if any? Have you tried any of the Oblivion.ini's sound tweaks?

Oblivion.ini Tweaks - Sound: http://tescosi.com/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion.ini#SirDrinkAlot.27s_recommendations_for_users_with_Onboard_Soundcards

This could also be related to codecs or something? Did you do anything between when you last installed and this reinstall in terms of Windows updates or anything?

I tried the soundcard tweaks and they didn't seem to do anything. I don't believe I made any sort updates or anything before reinstalling.

This kind of sounds like a UI-related problem. Do you have any UI mods installed? What mods do you have installed, by the way?

Edit: I've seen a few problems related to conversation voices, still looking for the other symptoms...

found your problem, but not sure about the solution...

Try resetting your audio codecs as well perhaps? http://tescosi.com/wiki/PCS:Keyboard_and_mouse_stop_working_shortly_after_loading_a_save

similar, but not your problem: http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1173883-abnormally-quiet-sounds/page__p__17329205__hl__sound__fromsearch__1#entry17329205

I only have a few armor mods and a race mod, but this problem occurred before I even had those. I was going to try the codec reset utility but it only seems to be for windows xp, I have windows 7.

If you have Windows 7, use the K-Lite Codec pack. As you install it, or after you install it, you can tell it to repair your current codecs. Try that.

You may also want to try a clean boot. I have the Window 7 instructions linked on the Oblivion:Troubleshooting page in the External Links section.

None of those threads were helpful either? You've tried regenerating your Oblivion.ini and checking your in-game and in INI audio settings? How did you go about reinstalling the game?
