What is the point of the 'thanks for participating' trophies called achievements?

To me it was always just an annoying little message in the right hand corner of my screen popping up all the time. Boring...

I will not debate that .. as I completely see your point.

I just equally find it annoying that Bethesda seems to think they need to "play our conscience" and while 98% of my mods are simply 'texture overhauls' - changes Deacon so he is not the FLASH in changing all the freaking time and Dogmeat is a different dog ... and Nick is texture is upgraded. I mean, those are serious 'cheat' mods, right????

I just find Bethesda is just getting more and more 'sad' ... in telling us / controlling how we choose to play OUR GAME.

You are just grasping at anything to whine about...

Bethesda lets us do pretty much anything we want with their game. We can write an entire new quests, build new towns or underground dungeons, build weapons that shoot anything you could possibly dream of, change the very stats of anything we want in the gameplay, turn our characters into anything we have the skill to 3d model, and ontop of that we can do all of that for free and share it with anyone on any pc anywhere in the world. What other companies are doing that on the scale that Bethesda is? Most everybody else gives you a game and says, 'this is your game, if you don't like it then too bad because you are stuck with it as is'.

And you are complaining about not getting a 'You saved Nick Valentine' trophy to show off on your Steam profile? Do you think your friends ever look at your Steam profile to see if you got that achievement for saving Nick Valentine?

You disappoint me.

It appears that Bethesda did this so as to accommodate Microsoft as apparently Xbox users are able to use achievements as some sort of currency. Something also about modded Xbox games not eligible for achievements.

Got his from a thread in the technical support sub-forum:

Ok, some information for everyone from Bethesda.net and Steam. Apparently to get Microsoft to allow mods on the Xbox One Bethesda had to disable Achievements for anyone using a modded version of the game on the console. This is in part due to Microsoft apparently using "Achievements earned in a set period of time" as some form of currency which can be used to buy stuff on their system (see steam discussion thread -achievements wil be diseble if you use mods.. - towards the end of the discussion for more information). So to get mods on consoles Bethesda had to make some accomadations to the console manufacturers. Not saying it's right or wrong but would have liked the Patch notes to warn us about the incoming change.

Okay - but I guess I thought the PC platform is different the Game Box Consoles?

But ... still .... it would seem Bethesda would do the PATCH, like is already done. But then I they have been known to let the community fix a lot of their bugs and such ...

LOL ... wow. Thanks, I need this laugh this morning.

First off your , ".... You disappoint me ..." is as important to me as flushing my toilet ....

Oh wait, that is rather important, huh?

Okay, it's as important to me as ... as .... as ..... as ..... as ...... as ........

Well gosh-golly, I cannot find anything to compare how NON-important it is to me. Because even letting a Fly outside is more important to me.

So much for your "Holier than thou" attitude, huh?

If you do not like people venting their frustrations and such, I suggest that you take your "holier than thou" attitude and go for a long walk or something, and do not let the door hit your butt on the way out.

I had more to say, but I figured based on your post, it would likely be above your ability to understand.

Honestly I always though the idea achievements and trophies in a purely single player game were strange, especially because they almost never come with any benefit in game. I remember your "Gamerscore" on xbox live mattered if you wanted to have a pissing contest with your 13 year old friends... and that was pretty much it.

Ya, for the most part I agree - but since they are there, it's kind of fun to see and go for. I mean it's there so have fun with it.

Thank you Stargazer09 for the info, however the one thing that really bugs me is this, Dear Bethesda we are PC users, we couldn't give a single crap what Microsoft Xbone players use or do with their system, or PS4 users for that matter, it's the WHOLE REASON there are different systems and versions to begin with. So Bethesda's solution it to "punish" everyone equally? .... smh. :(

See this is exactly the problem.

So what if your mods are 90% retexture mods - climate change mods - facial change mods and such?

They do NOTHING for the character in regards to "Achievements" - "Quests".?

Hell, what if it's another QUEST Mod, that just adds a new quest?

* I just installed 1.

I understand, if this is correct: That the console users get to spend their "achievements" and such as "$$" ... okay, fine. So they get penalized for having weather mods, texture mods and such?

I dunno - .. but oh well. This sounds like the makings of another "MESS" like they did with Skyrim "Pay for Mods" total BOMB.

Glad I don't use a console!

It's a matter of scale, time and economics. PC users make up less then 15% of the market for FO4. And modders an even smaller portion than that ( yes, a lot of PC players never use mods) Creating code is not free. And is often a LOT more complex than many non coders can believe. Then any new code added to an existing base can cause new bugs that will then have to be addressed.

In order to make a change that many PC modders will not even care about in the first place, Beth would have to assign a group, come up with a plan, allocate the resources (time & money) and the changes would have to go through their standard QA process and checked for bugs before being approved. If you really care about achievements you are in a very small minority. And, there IS ALREADY a mod for that. :whistling:

And modders an even smaller portion than that...

That might be ... but it is a proven and established fact that if it was not for the modding community a lot of games would have died much sooner because people would get bored with them.

IE:

Skyrim has enjoyed a much longer life due to the mod community.

FO - 3 and NV are also more alive than not due to the mod community.

Keeping the games alive - has helped Beth's bottom line too.... thus why they want to get a 'cut of the mod action' ... very much so.

. o O (just saying ...)
