maboru
Yes, apparently decreasing it corrupts all the saves that were working with a higher number, I can't confirm this as I've never reverted to a lower number. You can try it and if your saves won't load then go back and put it at 5 and it may work but if that truly corrupts saves then you're out of luck. However, if you plan to start a new game anyway then you'll probably be deleting your old saves anyway. Let us know what you decide and how it works out if you risk it. Thasic
I'm not a long way into the game yet, but I don't know if I want to start again. I'll have to think about it. If I restart I'll experiment first and let everyone know how it works.
GothikaGeist
As I said before, I was in the middle of a game and actually experimented with the Grids. At first I had 5, and I wanted it to be smoother (I had Game Stabilizer on [before I knew what it did] as well as those 118 ESP/ESMs)so then I made it a 4 in the middle of a game, still worked. So then I made it a 6, was slower (I turned it to 6 because it seemed that each time I left a cell I would stop, load the new cell, and then continue on. BUT, if I sprinted or moved quicky into the cell that had not yet loaded the game crashed)So THEN I made it a 3, and all was good, except now I went even less further, before I had to make sure I walked into an unloaded cell. But as of now These are my NV Configurator INI Tweaks: Edited July 18, 2011 by GothikaGeist
maboru
Unfortunately I'm able to verify that going from a higher Grid value to a lower Grid value will prevent you from loading a save. Fortunately I'm also able to verify that returning to the higher grid value will allow you to resume your saved game! I made the mistake of going back online with Steam to verify and it rewrote my ini's, overriding Configator. All I had to do was reload my latest preset in Configator. Not sure how that happened. I checked my ini's to make sure the manual changes were still in place (Headgen etc.) and they were. Weird. Any one know of a good article explaining the whole ini configuration layout (Configator's great but understandably limited and I'd like to delve more deeply into the ini's)? GothikaGeist
I've been looking for a guide like that as well. Maybe the Vault (Fallout) Wiki has some info...
Thasic
You gentlemen are in luck. This is a huge article by a rather knowledgeable person that has gone over all aspects of FO3 and NV as well as several other games. He writes in depth about altering INI files. Some of his stuff may be a bit dated but it is still a great insight into making game tweaks.
