Elbubsio Posted July 17, 2011 Share Posted July 17, 2011 Hi all, I recently reinstalled windows (XP sp3). However, F:NV is installed on a different drive so all the files are still there for the game. Now when I try to start the game, it tells me it's not installed. I spent ages hunting around for a way to get it working again without having to reinstall and found a mod called "after fallout c", but sadly that's for fallout 3 and not NV. Excaliburp Posted July 17, 2011 Share Posted July 17, 2011 Taking a wild guess here, but if you are merely afraid of losing the mods you had then you could always just reinstall the game in same location, letting the installation overwrite the existing data files. maboru Posted July 17, 2011 Share Posted July 17, 2011 FNV is an entirely different beast than FO3, I believe you'll have to log back onto Steam and let Steam sort it out for you. Nimboss Posted July 17, 2011 Share Posted July 17, 2011 The fastest and only (legal) way is to go into your Steam folder and just run the steam.exe! ( I think it was that one, it was some month I upgraded to Win7, the most simple fix I seen currently to all the titles I have on Steam), It will fix everything including your other Steam games. A lot faster than a complete reinstall since you any way need to registry your account on Steam again since you reinstalled your OS. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
bben46 Posted July 18, 2011 Share Posted July 18, 2011 Reinstalling the OS will reset the Windows Registry and ANY program that relies on the registry will no longer work until it is reinstalled. As FONV is a steam only game, you will have to reinstall steam first, then use steam to reinstall the game. If you already have reinstalled steam, and want to move your game to a new location, you must move the steam client to do this.
