SicklyAlbatross
I've tried really hard to find a solution to this through my own research and so far nothing has worked. I've also noticed that other people have posted about this same issue, but I don't think they've found a fix yet? (Or if they have, they haven't said so?) I'll try to be as detailed about what's happening and what I've tried as possible. Alright. When I click on NMM I'll get a little loading circle but nothing will happen. I can open NMM by running it as administer, but when I do that's when the missing .ini message appears. All of my INIs in the Fallout folder in My Games are as they should be. NMM directs to the correct place just fine. (I've quadruple checked all of that.) I've utilized the FO4 verify game cache, it said I was missing one item and it replaced it, but NMM still can't find the INI afterwards. I also read somewhere that it creates the INI from your save when you launch the game through Steam. So I've done that. I've deleted and re-downloaded the game. Nothing. After I re-downloaded it I open it from Steam and made a save and still nothing. All of the mods I have currently work perfectly, but I can't download new mods from Nexus or open the NMM normally. I am admittedly, a noob, so any advice or commentary is most welcome because I can't tell if this is my fault or out of my control. (And this has been SO frustrating, I just want to be able to download mods from Nexus again.)
Deleted3507349User
Have you followed the instructions; 'How To Enable Fallout 4 Mods'?

Deleted3507349User
Just to double-check (not to be a pain) but you have a Fallout4Custom.ini in addition to Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini?
SicklyAlbatross
Indeed I do. (And don't worry about it. :) )

mindloss
So, I figured it out!! You have to show file extensions in windows because my .ini file LOOKED like an ini file but it was actually a .ini.txt file. Once you show file extensions (folder view options, control panel) you can rename it to just .ini and it will ask if you want to change the extension. SicklyAlbatross
I was so excited there, but it says my files are just regular .ini files. Thanks for the update though, I'm sure that was able to help other people. :D
Deleted15964729User
All of my old mods are running fine. I just can't get any new ones. Sounds like your plugins.txt don't get updated when you install mods. Does it happen with texture mods as well (that is to say, mods without plugin files/esp's)? Make sure for a fifth time that you have your ini settings to ..\My Documents\My Games\Fallout 4\Fallout4Custom.ini? You shouldn't edit the other ini's so make sure you haven't done that. Since V1.5 you only need the following line: [Archive] bInvalidateOlderFiles=1Before V1.5 you needed (if above doesn't work for you please use this): [Archive] bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 sResourceDataDirsFinal=If none of that works, try re-installing NMM as well. From what I can tell you've tried re-installing everything else? You could try deleting (or appending the original name with .BAK at the end) the following directories to make sure you start from scratch and no old settings are saved: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Black_Tree_Gaming\ (some NMM settings and versions are stored here)C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Fallout4\Also make sure to delete the directory you have installed NMM in (ie C:\Program Files\Nexus Mod Manager\). This should give you a complete fresh start without any old settings lingering (except perhaps registry settings).
SicklyAlbatross
Whoo! I'll give this a go and get back to you.Edit: You're a saint! I uninstalled NMM and deleted those directories and I'm able use NMM again after reinstalling it. Thank you so much!
