saving a custom face in geck

I made a new face in geck for an npc mod. I really like the changes I made, but for some reason after I saved the esp file with the changes, the game crashes on load. In NVMM it shows that the esp is now dependent on numerous esm files it never used to depend on, so obviously I fubared something. I want to drop the original esp file back in so my game will load, but I want to save the changes I made in the "tainted" esp file. Is there any way to do that? And by the way, what did I do wrong to make the esp file freak out? Thanks.

I don't know about FaceGen Exchange, and I don't know all it's features, but maybe there is something there.

Another way (which I did for Oblivion) is to copy the values onto notepad (manually) and then recreate them (again, manually).

However this is an EXTREMELY time consuming way. I did it, and yeah, the NPC looked just the way I made her when I remade it.

This is what I did...

Did the face use custom head parts, like eyes or hair, from a mod? I can't really remember the exact issue, but at some I got crashes from using Lings' custom eyes wrong somehow. I fixed the problem by actually following the instructions on the mod's Nexus page (shocking, I know). Might not at all be related to your issue, though.

i ran into this same issue a while back.

I had made an rr companion and decided i was gonna use one of ashara's presets in lings under the copy paste feature in the geck to make the face,

i had crash problems.

i thought at first that it was the hair and eyes duplication that was saving on my esp that was creating the reliance.

turns out it was something else.

i tried creating a custom race that had custom hair and eyes and no others that the default stuff. i them tried to load lings and copy/paste. To my suprise, it still required lings to load for the esp in the geck but did not require lings esm for the game to run. it still crashed going thru hard load doors about 30% of the time. i made sure to tes snip and it changed nothing.

There was something in the lings bsa still requiring my esp to properly load.

I was very frustraited and was gonna move on to something else but i had to try and figure out what it was that was causing the problem. it was bothering me that i could not figure it out. I unpacked the lings bsa to see if there were any strange texture files that the face might rely on and could not find anything. i noticed that if i removed the bsa and loaded lings, the faces would not show, but this was likley due to the missing hair and eye textures.

I then duplicated the face in question almost exactly, by manually changing the numbers on the sliders till it was painstakingly 95% correct and the face i made looked not even 20% like the asharas preset. there's something that i was unable to find in either the esm or the bsa that asharas uses that is causing this reliance

im not an expert in fnvedit otherwise i could probably find the problem.
