dubiousintent Posted May 8, 2016 Share Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) The main menu background is a "loading screen", which are static images (like screenshots). As the lettering is bright and clear, the darkness is inherent in the image rather than lighting. I haven't seen that screen before, so likely it is from a replacer but it appears to be a "night" image specifically to emphasize the Lucky 38 tower. Set it aside as a concern for the moment. The assumption (absent an "in-game" image) is that your daylight is now darker and your night has very low visibility. If you are sure the ENB settings are not at fault for the low light level in the game (because it wasn't darker than before after you installed ENB? All displays are not equal with the same settings), then the problem is a mod. Any number of mods make changes to the INI in the background so you wouldn't necessarily be aware of them. The only way to be certain your game INIs (all 3) are "default" would be to compare them with vanilla versions from before you installed any mods. You need to also check for any NVSE plugin settings that might also affect lighting. But I would suggest you start with looking at what mods you have installed. They are missing a lot of the entries I have in my original default versions. The order they appear in is different as well. While I don't know if the order is important, it makes it too difficult for me to make meaningful comparisons without more time and effort than I am willing to spend just to see differences without any idea what I'm looking for in particular. (ENB makes changes to the "Prefs" file, so simply disabling it won't remove those edits.) Try renaming both the INI files in the "C:\Users\<YourAccountName>\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV" folder and let the game rebuild then. If that resolves the issue, then you can try applying the tweaks in your old (renamed) versions of those files back into the vanilla version INI files a few at a time. Note that those files are built from the "fallout_default.ini" file found in your game install folder. If you have made changes to that file (which is often suggested), then you will not get a vanilla version of those files. (I don't use MO, so perhaps it keeps a copy of the original.) EDIT: ok now the issue has changed, the main menu is still dark, but in game some saves are ok. EDIT 2: On some saves I load and the darkness issue form the main menu persists, from others it doesn't, if I load them and return to the main menu the issue is gone, and if I load a save game that would otherwise be dark its fine. EDIT 3: This video shows this effect, the first part shows me loading one of the "non weird" saves and exiting to the main menu and loading a "weird" save. The second clip just shows me opening up the "weird" save on its own, notice the huge difference in brightness, nothing was changed between the two clips. The fluctuations in the lighting for the loading screens menu suggests a dynamic I had dismissed, that an XML file is involved. Loading different saves does not (to the best of my knowledge) change your INI files, though I will look at them in the meanwhile. For now I think you are on the correct track, trying to determine just which save went bad and then trying to recall what changed at that time. (Do not overlook any mods you may have removed at that time. Removed mods can leave "residue" behind in save files.) Most likely you are going to have to revert to the last "good" save regardless. It's pretty apparent the issue is embedded in the later save files. There are potential problems if you do not install them in the correct order. Please see this post. On a possibly unrelated note: I also notice you do not have a "Wrye Flash" Bashed or "merge" patch. That means you are having the last loaded mod touching on a record "win" in it's entirety. Earlier loading mods are losing out. You really need to look into using one or the other.
