Floods hit US hard

Though, it was "only" ten victims, it was quite large scale thing in here. It was in news even in US in some states.

 

So sad...

Any time young people, for what ever reason, turn to this sort of violence it is tragic and hard to understand. Although the authors of the wikipedia article School shooting state:

School shootings receive extensive media coverage but are infrequent.^[1] They often result in nationwide changes of schools' policies concerning discipline and security. Some experts have described fears about school shootings as a type of moral panic.^[2]

I believe no such incident is insignificant and that modern societies have to try to find effective ways to prevent them.

 

 

The Jokela school shooting occurred on November 7, 2007 at Jokela High School (Finnish: Jokelan koulukeskus), a public secondary school in the town of Jokela, Tuusula municipality, Finland. The gunman was 18-year-old Pekka-Eric Auvinen. The incident resulted in the deaths of nine people: five male students (ages 16-18) and one female adult student (age 25); the school principal, Helena Kalmi (age 61); the school nurse (age 43); and Auvinen himself, who was also one of the school's students. One other person suffered gunshot wounds, and eleven people were injured by shattering glass while escaping from the school building. The day before the incident, Auvinen posted a video on YouTube predicting the massacre at the school.

 

This was the second school shooting in Finland. The previous incident occurred in 1989 at the Raumanmeri school in Rauma, when a 14-year-old fatally shot two fellow students.

Some really sad news here in Illinois. Its like the world is on fire and the fuel is people. I want to post the link in a User News I started months ago about such tragedies.

I watched the video at the page linked. I don't doubt that games can and do play a part in some of the violent crimes we are seeing today. Should shooter games be banned completely?

I don't know.

If you put a rating on them and put them behind the counter you just make them more irresistible. I don't think this latest case has been linked to game violence conclusively yet but it wouldn't surprise me if it is.

 

What is the best course of action to take if game content is really to blame for even part of the carnage?

I do know it does no good just to ignore the problem.
