at level 10 i encountered the 2 cultists before they talked to me.

i just took the letter and played on....

now i wanted to start the quest but that aint happening.

tried so far to use startquest or setstage without any result.

the quest isnt even shown in the log.

travelled then to soltsheim to trigger something there, but even having a talk with cultists there isnt doing anything.

for a test i loaded an older save, and having a talk with them first triggers everything fine. but to replacer from that save isnt an option.

someone has a clue?

Did you kill them and steal the letter before they could activate the quest, or what?

Was that wise, Sir?

Did you complete the quests "The Way of the Voice" and "The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller" in the main questline and go to Solstheim to search for Miraak?

What mods do you have?

There are mods which can delay the start of DLC quests until you want them to start, but I don't know if they can be installed retrospectively on saves that have already proceeded past a certain point, particularly on a borked save if you killed the "Quest Givers" before they had a chance to give the quest. That seems to be a bit of an error on the part of Bethesda. If that happens, there should be "Biff the Understudy" clones of the quest-givers turn up a few game days later and kick-start the quest.

Using the console to kick-start quest stages is never a good idea unless you know exactly what you are doing really rather well. I'd go back to a save before you did that and continue from there and hope someone else has a solution.

Maybe spawning them into the game, if you know the correct ID code for them. I forget the details on this as it's been a while. One ID code spawns a copy, so don't use that, and the other spawns the original.

BaseID is the NPC's Base ID, RefID is the NPC's Reference ID (which I think spawns a copy) and I forget which one you should use or if player.placeatme is the correct command, so I'd wait for confirmation from someone else.

But I'd reload a save that has not been consoled with quest stages and make sure you've completed those mainline quests.

I killed them on sight.

didnt assume it woould fck the quest trigger that bad.

when the quest for the horn is actived they are able to spawn.

but nothing is working: no quest console commands, no clones and not even the original npcs.

clones giving the talk and a fight but no quest start.

orginal ones giving a chat, but they dont turn aggro nor active the quest....

gege to the bethesda engine.

That is really bad. Killing them on sight should not do that. But then, attacking people on sight who have not attacked you is not such a good idea, either. Try killing a chicken in broad daylight in Riverwood and see what happens!

The Dragonborn DLC should start based on you reading the letter, not be reliant on multiple steps, such as them talking to you, you replying, them attacking, you killing them and THEN reading the letter.

What if you were a skilled Thief or Nightblade, snuck up on them, pick-pocketed them and snuck away?

And even if you kill them on sight, they should spawn again and approach you the next day or something. Especially if the DLC is scripted to start after a conversation, a fight and THEN reading the letter. I seem to remember being attacked by Cultists several times until I finally went to Windhelm and got the boat to Solstheim; and they were all over the place. I remember them attacking in Dragonbridge and near the Steps up to the Greycloak's temple several times, as well as in Riften and near Solitude.

Do you have the Unofficial patches installed? They fix a lot of problems with many quests, although it probably won't work retrospectively.

And, for the second time, what mods do you have?

I'd also make sure you've finished "The Way of the Voice" and "The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller" in the main questline, go to Riften or somewhere and see if they show up, and then go to Windhelm, get the boat to Solstheim to search for Miraak. with a save where you've not messed with the console.

By then, maybe someone else will have replied.

If you insist on forcing quest stages, make sure you have a list of all the stages and their requirements and try forcing each one in order.

It's never recommended, though.

For this very reason.
