Gatorskater
I've been trying to launch The Witcher 2, but when I do it keeps updating by downloading a patch. It will download it and verify it, then it proceeds to download the same patch and so on. What can I do to stop it from doing this and just get to playing the game? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game but to no avail. Edited July 23, 2011 by Gatorskater
tommy5761
If a fresh install with no mods you might try downloading the patches manually and install one at a time . Also temporarily disable antivirus before installing patcheshttp://www.thewitcher.com/patch/http://www.thewitcher.com/patch1-2/http://en.thewitcher.com/patch1-3/ Edited July 23, 2011 by tommy5761
Gatorskater
Which patches would I download? I bought the retail version from a store, so I tried the North American (Atari and affiliates) patch, but it says game install is invalid or incomplete. Probably because it`s reading a 1.3 patch file in your install directory . I would reinstall with antivirus disabled but do not start the launcher and close it if it appears and then retry the 1.1 Atari exe EDIT : Forgot to add if updating manually then patches need to be updated in order 1.1 then 1.2 and finally 1.3 Edited July 23, 2011 by tommy5761

The newest patch is 1.3, but...I think I would go with 1.2 to start and go from there. Some folks are having issues with 1.3 right now. As for the install being invalid or incomplete, maybe you should re-install and see what happens. There is no need to register the game (that I know of). If this is a new install for you, one issue some folks had on install, including me, was the DVD player could not read all of the data correctly. Some of us ended up installing a new DVD deck. From what I am reading though, I doubt this is an issue with you. EDIT: oops, looks like Tommy is way ahead of me on this one, I'll just leave this quietly...lol  Edited July 23, 2011 by BarefootWarrior

Gatorskater
Hey all, I figured out the problem. I had to set the Catalyst Control Center options to use application settings for antialising and anisotropic filtering. Game works fine now. Thanks to tommy5761 for the advice of manually installing the filters!
