LadyMilla
I'm trying to move the meshes and textures of my extensive collection of clothing and armor mods (>6 GB) into a BSA archive. I have successfully created the first version of the BSA archive, named it 'ClothCollection.bsa', I've merged the .esp plugins into a single .ESP (yep, it was clean, fixed it up with TES4Edit)... and here comes the problem: the size of the BSA archive is around 3 GB. When I installed it (ClothCollection.bsa and ClothCollection.esp), certain armors that were included in the BSA archive had missing meshes in the game, other armors and clothes in the BSA had texture problems. I created a separate BSA archive for the 'offending' armor (using the same BSA creation method) and now the armor has no issues in the game. I've checked to paths inside the BSA archives and they appear to be identical. Path entries within the .NIF files use the correct "\" character. Question: Is there a known limitation of the game engine with regard to the size of the BSA archive or am I experiencing some quirky 'who knows why' behaviour? (Tried to search the forum for 'BSA' + 'archive' + 'size' (as a matter of fact, I tried Google too) but no luck.)
MShoap13
I'm not entirely sure if packing both meshes and textures in one archive would cause a problem or not, but I think putting the meshes in one .bsa and the textures in a separate .bsa would be something to try. A) It would help to circumvent a file size limitation.B) This is how the games archives are packed to begin with so there may be some spontaneous issue with accessing a texture and a mesh for one object in the same archive. Yes, that could be a solution, but in that case the BSA archives should be added to the archive variable in Oblivion.ini because they could no longer have the same name as the .ESP plugin. Also, in the meantime I found another thread discussing a similar issue and there it was said that certain BSA creator programs did not work reliably so right now I'm trying TES4files (First attempt failed, TES4files bugged out with some application error). EDIT: managed to pack the first batch of clothing and armor mods, now I wonder what the "Culled bad .dds text found" message means.
