Hello folks, I have just put Fallout 3 back on my Windows Seven computer, and I have played it up to the point where I am out of the vault.

If I remember correctly, there is an update I am supposed to put on (forgotten name) - but when I do, the game won't start because of something to do with LIVE ( which I do not use). Trouble is, I have forgotten what the name of the fix is that sorts this out.

I also wonder if there are any other patches I should know about. I don't suppose any new ones have been issued since I last played the game, which would be just before New Vegas came out, but cannot recall if this was necessary. I haven't put any mods on here yet - do I need a mod manager? I seem to have forgotten all these things....

thanks for your help.

ps, have just d/ld patch 1.7...

If you have patch 1.7 and it works, then you don't need to bother with any windows live disabler stuff. Especially if you want to unlock any of the achievements.

If you play the game completely without mods, you don't need any mod manager like FoMM.

PS: Welcome to the Nexus!

I have installed the patch - it did bring up a complaint about Live. Happily I have found the appropriate fix and I think Live is now disabled. Haven't tried running the game again yet. I do want mods, and have just added two. I put the .esp files directly into the game data folder thinking that was where they should go, but they are not showing up in FOMM, so more to do yet. Thank you for your input.
