Normal Map problem

Nothing seemingly weird in Nifskope. However, in-game, I noticed that when I adjusted my Texture Size setting from large to medium or small, the neovinci armor (Aayla Secura) retained all the sharp details while other textures became less detailed, though I can't replicate the weird shading that you're having. I suspect that neovinci may have saved his textures without mipmaps and/or the wrong DDS format. Using DDSopt on the neovinci textures may correct this.

First of all: Many thanks for your efforts and taking your time. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/smile.gif

Sorry for my late reply, because in the last 2 days I had an long conversation with "evenstargw" (*waves* ^^) who created The NeoVinci Store for HGEC. The recolored versions in this store are working well for me.
Not so the originals by Neo (...for me!).

It turned out, that:
- quote evenstargw:
"...a teensy little difference that might be the cause. Apparently, Neo's textures are saved in a 3D format with only one layer, instead of a 2D one."

Proposed solution: (Maybe this helps samadchaz)
- quote: "So just open every normalmap ( xxx_n.dds-texture) in the directories for Textures/Neovinci, Textures/Armors/SG and save them again as DXT5 compressed, with MIPmaps ofcourse."

I tried so. There is already some progress (thanx Evie(s)! ^^ ).
Unfortunately there are always some parts missing. Further it seems that sometimes the left / right counterpart is missing.
(or f.e. left-front and right-back on pants).

-btw. I followed your link, but I cannot install this tool for some reasons (some dll's are missing), thanks anyway http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif

I am still grateful for any help

Greetings

Yup, this assessment is spot on. It seems neovinci saved the normal maps (*_n.dds files) as volumetric textures (3D) instead of planar textures (2D).

It seems that DDSopt cannot run in WinXP and requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 according to the author.

Glad I could help. :)

ok, so its look like garphic problem with outfit, because other outfits mods are ok

thanks for your help

I have this exact problem with all of Neo's outfits and it's driving me crazy. Could it have something to do with OBGE?

Problem solved (...for me^^) - Maybe this post helps samadchaz and manofshadow:

After a recommendation from "evenstargw" I tried to fix the textures with Gimp. (you need the .dss-plugin and the Normal Maps-plugin). I opened any _n.dds file. Without changing anything I saved them (overwrite). If you were asked to replace your file click "Yes". Then choose under compression "Alpha Exponent (DXT5)" and activate "Generate Mip-Maps". Save your texture.

There is no guarantee that this works for you. But for me it does, and I wanted to let you know.

All honor for this suggestion goes to evenstargw (not me)

Greetings

Alba and Tobjoern :)

Thanks for the help. For me, it turned out that the graphics extender was causing the problem. I (and several other members) pointed out the issue to neovinci in the comments field of his race add-on and he fixed the problem on some of the newer versions of his mods. Unfortunately, anything before his tina outfit only works for me if I turn off the graphics extender. If I get a chance, I'll try the method you guys worked out and see what happens.
