Chaophim
First of all, I want to give a huge thank you to anyone who reads this.Additional thank-yous for those who try to help. It isn't that I mind "Dunno, dude - sounds like it sucks" responses, but they are a bit of a tease when you are hoping that the reply notification is a signal that someone is posting up a solution, y'know? I have tried to Google the answers myself, but a lot of the posts are dated (like talking about waiting for WW/Automotron to come out in a few months or talking about old betas) or Google keying in on the wrong terms (like giving me links to Fallout 3/NV threads), so I figured I'd ask live people in here. In order to make this wall-o-text a bit more readable, I'm using spoiler tags religiously. To start things off: My specs. Video: Geforce GTX 970 (primary card), Geforce GTX 760 (secondary, dedicated to PhysX) - No SLICPU: AMD FX-6100 Six-Core Processor (3.30GHz)RAM: 16 GBHDD: 240GB SSD (133GB free)OS: Windows 10 Home (64-bit)Fallout 4 Version: 1.5.157 for PC (Purchased and installed through Steam)DLCs: Wasteland Workshop, AutomatronF4SE Version: 0.1.13 Mod Managers: I use Mod Organizer 2 (2.0.4a) primarily. Yes, I am well aware that it is in alpha, and yes, I know that it works though a virtual files system. This fact, and the control it gives me as far as shuffling overwrites without having to uninstall and reinstall ten different mods, etc., is why I use it. I also have Nexus Mod Manager 0.61.23 installed and have tried that to see if any of the problems were due to MO. They didn't seem to be. (nota bene: If you hit 'reply' just to start a "Mod manager X is better than mod manager Y war/debate, please don't waste my time or yours. Now, if you use the same mod manager and want to suggest a fix/workaround, that's great. In the same vein, while I appreciate sympathy, I'm looking for more solutions-based responses than "I don't use that mod manager, sorry." replies, thanks!) All Fallout 4 files validated almost daily. My modding experience level: I've been modding my games for years - Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4. This included both using mods as well as making them. Not a total newbie, but currently at a loss and think a fresh set of eyes or two might help me get on the right path. VIS Components.espGive Me That Bottle.espMyPeaceOfMind-Fixes.espMyPeaceOfMind-Fixes_II.espMyPeaceOfMind-NPC.espAllinAccessory.espRHDaddon.espSanctuary Terminals.espScrap Everything.espStarter kit.esp Here are the problems. I will list each individually since they don't all happen at the same time or with any discernible pattern. 1 - Missing Vault 111 elevator. Happens no matter what mods I use. When I go down into Vault 111 in the beginning of the game, elevator door and 'gear lift' are there and visible. I make it through the tutorial, get the pip-boy, open the door, and *poof* I am left staring at an empty shaft (with walls but no shaft door or gear lift) and a quest marker inside. I can step into the elevator and it prompts me fine and lifts me up (by magic, I assume, since I am just floating in thin air). Not a game-crashing problem, but an annoyance, since it even happens when I use modes that *don't* replace or even touch textures, meshes, or materials. 2 - Losing mods and/or content *during* a game session. I have had a couple of times where the load-out 'seemed' stable and I would be on my way through an otherwise-fun play-through, when I would get killed by *something* and the game would auto-load my last save (made just minutes before my death), as it should. However, without exiting the game entirely, exiting the game to the main menu, alt-tabbing, or changing mods or anything, I would be greeted with "This save game relies on missing content. Continue loading?" Sometimes it is as cryptic as that. Other times, it has actually given me the missing mod's name, but when I exit to the main menu and check the load order, the mod is still there and active. I exit out completely and check the esps. Mod is still there. I check loadorder.txt and plugins.txt. Still there, still active in their read-only files. The game just says they don't exist. 3 - Some textures and mods work, while others don't. This problem is REALLY frustrating me. An example of the textures issue is a soffee cup replacer I have used for the longest time. All it does is put the vaultboy on the coffee mug. One version for clean cups, one for dirty. Both are by the same author, both are from the same page, and both have been in my load order darn near since their release. They have worked fine before and are up to date. Problem is, that the retex will appear on the 'clean' cups in pre-war and in vaults, but not on the 'dirty' post-war cups. I've checked the textures in gimp. All fine. I've checked all mods in FO4Edit to make sure none of them changed the texure path. All fine there as well. The coffee cup isn't the only texture that does this either - same for some wall retextures, etc., It is almost as if Fallout4 just randomly decides not to load loose files while letting other loose files load just fine. This happens even with (manually or via NMM) installing the textures directory into the Fallout directory just to make sure it isn't a problem of MO not copying over textures.Examples of mods not loading is like that "Starter Kit" mod. All this mod does is places items in Shawn's changing table. I have used it before without issue, until recently. It is loaded near-to-dead-last (and has even had this problem when loaded dead last, as of late) and should, according to FO4Edit and common sense "win" any conflicts. It has no conflicts with the two mods that currently follow it. However, when I go in-game, the items are not there. Mod is loaded and active. It just isn't working the way that it should and for no identifiable reason. It almost seems to be losing to a conflict that isn't there, so reverting to default. I have had a few other problems, but it is getting late and I am getting a headache from fighting with this game for the past month and a half, so I'll cut off the OP right here, allow some time and answers to drift by, and then possibly continue posting my issues in this or another thread. Thanks again for anyone tossing brain cells at this. I really appreciate it.
Royhr
Well for #1 I know it is recommended that while playing thru the beginning of the game in Vault 111 that you try to do so without using any mods. Hold off activating mods until you actually exit the vault and make it to the surface. Not sure it you actually tried this or not and I'm thinking that you probably have since you seem to be literate as far with modding experience. If you have then sorry for posting this but just curious if you still have the issue with the elevator with no mods running.
ddavies10693
I've never used Mod Organizer, but a lot of what you've described sounds exactly like it could be caused by the fact that it is still in Alpha. All of your issues, aside from the random vault door issue, seem to be mod installation problems. Instead of viewing problems 2 and 3 as unrelated issues, if you look at them both as an installation issue, it becomes clear that there is some sort of common denominator. I doubt the creators of Mod Organizer would recommend using a program still in it's alpha stage of development as your primary method of installing and uninstalling mods. Even FO4Edit is still in Beta, and there's warnings galore all over the place when you use it, because it isn't completely done yet. A few questions: 1) does completely clearing Mod organizer of everything, and reinstalling all mods with NMM yield the same issues? 2) does downloading mods from the beth.net service cause the same errors? as a service which uses neither NMM or MO to install, this is a great control group. 3) how many total mods do you have? I know you've merged some, but I'm curious how many there are total

I know you've merged some, but I'm curious how many there are total Like I said, I have tried (begrudgingly) installing through NMM and manually, to try to eliminate MO as the culprit. The problems persist even then. To answer your other questions: 1 - Tried this often. I download the mod packages onto a non-ssd drive to save space on the SSD and to make it easy for both MO and NMM to share a downloads directory. The only issue that MO really seems to have is a small one with not copying all meshes and textures at times (known issue) but, like I say, even manually hand-placing them into the fallout4/data/textures directory and removing that task from MO's chorelist entirely doesn't help. 2 - To be honest, there are very few of the mods that I have that I've seen on the workshop and, even then, I trust external managers and user control over the 'next come, next serve' way that the built in mod manager seems to handle load orders. Plus, after I did give it a shot, uninstalling the mods was a nightmare in itself, since it kept saying I had downloads in progress, etc., when I didn't. Finally had to renstall the game to get rid of that issue. :( 3 - I try to keep it around 100, even though I know the cap is ~255. Less cooks in the kitchen, the better, it seems. ddavies10693
The issue with it saying "still downloading" is actually a non-issue. It says this even when it is still downloading things like mod descriptions and thumbnail images, not just actual files, because I guess it can't differentiate between the 2 at this point (fail). The files themselves typically download incredibly quickly. Also as you said, the organizer has an issue copying meshes and textures, which from your original post, is the exact issue you're having. Does using a mod with a ba2 archive make any difference? I don't know of any offhand, but I'd be interested to know if that has any bearing. The use of archives would put the texture replacing on the game itself rather than the mod manager.

Even with the files physically in the correct fallout4 directories and with MO completely out of the picture, which is what is driving me nuts. ddavies10693
Aside from everything else covered above, the only other thing I can imagine is something about the way the actual game is installed. Do you have admin and read+write privileges on all relevant folders on both your hard drives? Do the mod managers run in admin mode? Or did you install the game, MO or NMM to a non-default folder? The game is installed to G:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\Common\Fallout4 and was installed there by Steam, with me setting the Steam Install directories (I keep Fallout titles on one SSD, Elder Scrolls titles on another), just to make sure things like registry entries, etc., were made with no user-tampering (like copying/moving a directory from one place to another, etc.,) I have full admin rights to everything and am not using a limited account. Yes, I run both MO and NMM as admin. Even when I tried the 'screw the managers, I will just install manually to see if *that* helps' approach, I launched the game as admin, just to cover bases. I installed both NMM and MO to the SSD drive ( G:\ ) to eliminate transfer speed differences between the ssd and non-ssd drives. The only thing that gets installed inside the Fallout4 directory though, besides F5SE, is FO4Edit. Everything else is sitting in their own directories off of the root, G:\ModOrganizer and G:\NMM, respectively. Thank you for the questions, btw. I hope my replies don't sound argumentative - you're doing just what I had hoped, making sure that t's and i's are crossed and dotted as they should be. I appreciate it.. ddavies10693
Have you, at any point, tried putting the mod managers on the default C:\ drive, while leaving the game in it's current place? I believe NMM defaults to C:\ upon install, and that may be for a specific design reason. It then lets you choose which drive your games are on during initial start up, because I believe it cannot detect games across hard drives. As I said, I consider MO a liability in this case because it is still in alpha, and I've never used it either. Also, are your various SSD drives just a partition of a single, internal hard drive or are they completely separate and external? I get you're frustrated, and I can tell you're not being argumentative. I'm used to working in tech support areas with people so I'm just trying everything I can think of, in order. Also one thing I forgot to ask before, do mods that are not just texture replacers or mesh replacers work fine? Like a mod that is only record editing or scripts or something?
