A child companion would be fairly useless, they probably can't fire anything larger than a .22 pistol and their carrying capability is well below average.

you can set this to pretty much anything you want, have a behemoth-powered 6-year-old (every mother's nightmare, i assume) if you want, whatever.

the by far bigger problem i see about this whole thing, technically speaking, is, there's no babies.

just tried a 6-7-year old (meet the forecaster's sister in my upcoming "i find places"-mod :-), that's about the very youngest i could manage.

age can't be set below i think 15 anyway in geck, and in matters of size, proportions and looks, you can scale the kid a bit, but not much before head gets too small in kid proportions, and you can get the face to look like maybe 6 or so like i said, but that's about the lowest you'll ever achieve, no way to make a baby in geck :-)

so i guess the least you'd have to do is rig a skeleton with some new body parts or whatever, never went that deep into character creation matters yet

6-7 would be stretching the credibility a bit far, IMO. Children that young simply wouldn't have the endurance to trek around in any wasteland, let alone the Mojave desert.

However it would be pretty cool if someone made a mod where you can meet Cass's long lost 11-12 year old daughter and find out that she's just as foul mouthed as her mother and meaner that Hit-Girl on steroids.

thought of a buddy of mine while rereading this today

when we played D&D he would play as a gigilo and always ask if he got a girl pregnant or not then wait a few years and return for the child then go out and use the kids as trap removers

Very Cruel but funny too, Just thought i would share

It might be fun to have a kid with you. James Hargrave in fallout 3 could steal ammo for you, this would be an easy perk, theft with no consequences. This would have to be limited for balance reasons. It would also be nice if the kid could sell things for you when you get over encumbered.

How about you find a baby who's parents have been killed outside of vault 101 then after a set amount of years pass in game, (don't worry, TTW tells you several years pass the first time you take the train to Nevada) the baby grows to a child with needs like the baby has.

This is one of my ideas I intend to add to my TTW port of The Wasteland Baby Project once I finish my current project. The baby part was obviously done before I ported it so the rest actually seems like it'd be pretty easy to implement.

What about a teenaged kid companion? Old and independent enough to handle themselves, but still needing you for guidance and general protection. It would be interesting if they could eventually develop different skills and perks based on how you raise them, possibly which factions you help the most or even what companions you keep around as role models (for example, arcade could influence them to study medicine and make better chems, while veronica might encourage them to get better at crafting and stronger melee attacks)

The big issue I see is that, Regardless of your situation you'd have to be a pretty irresponsible parent to drag your kid into casinos or fiend strongholds. or leave them waiting in bumblef*#@ nowhere unsupervised for days on end. Hm.
