Creation Kit facial feature bug

So I have been messing around with the CK a bit really glad it came out.

Anyhow I have noticed a problem whenever I change anything on an NPC when I go into the game their face will be pale and none of the facial textures such as freckles, makeup, grime, etc appears on them.

For example I gave Preston a beard log into the game his face is pale white but with the beard no grime or anything though.

I changed Cricket's armor go into the game her face is pale (to be fair it already was) but her eye makeup grime and such is all gone.

Every character I have done anything to this appears to be happening to. With Cricket all I did was give her a full suit of metal armor, absolutely no changes to her face.

Is there a way to fix this?

I already redid all the changes I made twice.

Accidentally loaded the DLC as a second master and it saved over all my changes.

I have been adding my changes to a mod that was made before the CK was released, could that be it?

I have this thing about keeping the amount of separate mods I run to an absolute minimum.

I'd hate to have to do this a third time but I will if I have to.

Did a search for this and every response that was Fo4 related was for the black texture glitch.

Thanks

Ctrl/F4 in CK with the NPC selected to output facegen data.

Edit: Also I don't think the faces in the CK are working properly, so it could be that by opening the character window for Cricket it's changing her face unintentionally. Could be wrong, but hair and skin and eye colour don't work for me in the CK as well as other features.

Thanks for the response I will try that when I get home.

Stupid question, but what will exporting the facegen data do?

Also there were other characters that I opened but hit cancel instead of of ok to close, and they were fine.

I wonder if hitting ok, which forces a save afterwards and puts a * on the NPC signifying its been edited could be whats causing the problem.

sorry for double posting but...

i tried the Ctrl+f4 thing... it exported something and since then, my 3 npcs that i created are either bugged (as in appearing without any armors or headgears) bugged (as in stuck in T position) or plainly vanished from the game but still appearing if i do /help "nameofncp" 4

what happened ? X_X

Samurok you created NPCs?

Like brand new ones?

If thats the case I have no idea what to do I've never tried that.

I have a feeling the GECK will be getting some upgrades and fixes in the future.

I tried the ctrl+f4 to export facegen and it didnt do anything in the game.

I seem to vaguely remember having to do something along those lines in skyrim though.

The characters don't look terrible and its only a few chars I messed with so I'll wait.

Exporting facegen exports the head mesh as a.nif and all the make-up or face addon masks as a .dds. I guess it helps with performance if it loads one texture for make-up/dirt instead of a load of them. As for why it's not working? I honestly don't know. I've only had a few days playing with the new CK and am a bit annoyed they changed things that worked in the Skyrim CK and broke other things.

As for creating a character in the CK. The lighting and FOV is so awful that it's hard to tell what my character would even look like in-game. I guess that's why it's in beta. Still, a lot needs to be fixed.

okay so apparently the ctrl+f4 did no cause the bug of my npcs... but strangely i think i have a cell reset bug aroud sanctuary that caused that somehow.

thing is, while i added those 3 npc to the game world in sanctuary for testing purposes, i moved them to the Castle very quickly (in game)

so my guess is that the cell reset bug in sanctuary somehow touched the npcs ?

(yeah i'm a very very new modder XD)

Yeah, it doesn't work. I made an NPC as a test and Skintone, brows nor any of the facial marks such a scars are appearing in-game, even with exporting the facegen.

Also, what is it with Bethesda in the last two games half-assing the children? the girls only have one functioning hair that doesn't clip through the head and none of them have any morphs. I am looking into that, but it appears that the adults have 2 heads, one default and one that has bones for the morphs. the children don't have the bone morph head. Even so, I have managed to get a few basic lip and nose-type morphs working for children using .tri's, but I might not bother pursuing it, mainly because I already have a million other things on my plate.

Anyway, I'm thinking that the PC uses the bone morph head and the NPC's use the default head for the bones, but using their facegen head to save performance. It also seems that brows and scars are textures, with normal maps instead of mesh overlays like in Skyrim. This is all a guess though, but it seems to match what I've seen from the files.

Sorry if I rambled a bit there.

no rambles here Hallgarth, all the infos you gave are usefull at least to my eye as a newcomer :)

i'm curious, does using skyrim's CK could provide me some "training" while i wait for a release version of F4's CK ?
